Hours of work : This is a part-time position with a minimum of 10 hours and a maximum of 40 hours per week and has flexible hours at the discretion of your supervisor, ending September 2026. From May through September there will be shifts during the day, evening, and weekend as required throughout the summer months.

Town of Devon Position Description

Position Description : Lifeguard / Instructor 1

The Lifeguard / Instructor 1 position is a seasonal position with the Town of Devon for the months of May through to the September long weekend. This is the ideal job if you are a lifeguard who likes swimming and being outside.

This lifeguard position involves guarding of public swim programs, teaching swimming lessons, performing first aid as required, conducting maintenance, and cleaning the facility and surrounding areas.

The Lifeguard / Instructor 1 works closely under the direction of the Lifeguard / Instructors 2,3, and 4. This is a part-time position with a minimum of 10 hours and a maximum of 40 hours per week. A Lifeguard / Instructor 1 must be available for days, evenings and weekends and other shifts as required.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide pool supervision to all pool patrons and implement a high quality of customer service.
• Demonstrate competency in aquatic lifesaving skills and in aquatic lesson instruction.
• Instruct aquatic lessons for children, youth, and adults.
• Prepare lesson plans, evaluate performance, and write progress cards.
• Maintain a welcoming, inclusive, hygienic and safe environment for customers and staff.
• Respond to incidents that occur in the aquatic area or the facility.
• Complete all maintenance and administrative duties as required.
• Actively participate in mandatory in-service training events.
• Other duties as assigned.
