The Civil Superintendent is a vital position for MacKay Contracting Ltd. to ensure it is delivering its Projects safely and on schedule. You will oversee the daily operations of a Project by leading and managing the on-site construction team and acting as the link between various Project parties and inspection authorities. The Civil Superintendent is responsible for orderliness on-site, ensuring quality standards are met, compliance with safety regulations, and that all equipment and materials are always available.
Location & Hours :
This role will have a home base at the Cranbrook office located at 1600A Theatre Rd., Cranbrook B.C., however the vast majority of time will be spent on the Project sites that MacKay is currently operating. Hours will vary on a project-to-project basis and overtime will be required on an as-needed basis to ensure projects are on schedule.
Responsibilities & Duties :
- Lead and manage the on-site construction team
- Coordinate with the Project Manager, Site Foreman and client on upcoming Project requirements
- Keep track of Project progress
- Set performance goals and deadlines
- Estimate costs and ensure the project is on budget
- Ensure forward planning in the ordering of materials and setting up sub-contractors for layout, delivery of supplies, density and pressure testing, proof rolls, beam tests, etc.
- Provide guidance to train and develop your construction team members
- Ensure accurate and daily reporting of timesheets and work orders are provided to the Project Manager
- Attend production meetings
- Review and becoming familiar with the schedule and budget and ensure adherence to these
- Ensure quality standards are met
- Place orders for materials and be responsible for equipment and materials on-site
- Follow the Project timeline to ensure deadlines are met
- Monitor and ensure on-site safety compliance, cleanliness, and orderliness
- Maintain records for site personnel such as daily field reports, field orders, and RFIs
- Liaise with inspection authorities regarding approvals
- Maintain a written daily log of visitors, job actions performed, materials expended, and problems resolved on the job site
- Travel between multiple job sites and simultaneously manage work loads of individual Projects
- Identify and resolve problems and conflicts, organize meetings, and cooperate with team members in various roles as necessary
- Daily submission of daily timecards
- Daily submission of labour equipment materials report
Qualifications & Skills :
Previous experience as a Civil Superintendent or in a similar roleKnowledge of local quality, safety, and health guidelines for construction job sitesIn-depth understanding of construction operations and processesExperience with concrete formwork and installation, and pump installationQuality control and blueprint interpretationFamiliar with general maintenance practices of heavy equipmentProficiency in computers, and Microsoft systems including MS Word, Excel, Outlook and TeamsAbility to work overtime and / or weekends, as requiredAbility and willingness to travel; the successful candidate must be able to travel and work at multiple locationsMust have excellent organizational and time-management skillsAbility to lead, mentor and inspirePosition requires a high level of initiative and a positive attitudeMust be able to give and follow both oral and written instructionsExcellent interpersonal communication and influencing skills with internal and external stakeholders at all levelsAbility to work in all weather conditions
