The Welder plays a critical role in keeping our operations running smoothly by ensuring company vehicles, equipment, and inventory experience minimal downtime. This position is part of our dedicated maintenance team and directly supports safe, efficient, and productive field operations.
Location & Schedule
- Based out of our Cranbrook, BC Headquarters
- Schedule is generally Monday to Friday, with flexibility depending on project needs
- Regional travel to job sites as required
- Occasional overtime or weekend work may be required depending on project needs
How You’ll Contribute
As a Welder at MacKay, you’ll be hands‑on in maintaining and rebuilding the equipment that keeps our projects moving. Your skills will directly impact equipment reliability, jobsite safety, and operational efficiency. You’ll work both independently and as part of a team, applying technical expertise, problem‑solving, and craftsmanship to real‑world challenges.
What You’ll Get to Do
Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and measurements prior to starting workSource and select appropriate materials for welding and fabrication projectsPerform welding and fabrication on company equipment and componentsComplete lifting and rigging activities safely and effectivelyMeasure and cut materials to exact specificationsWeld metals using proper techniques and materialsRepair cracks, perform rebuilds, and complete preventative maintenance on equipmentOperate equipment and tools required to assemble metal parts and structuresIdentify hazards, deficiencies, and potential failures before they become issuesFollow all safety, health, and environmental procedures at all timesSubmit daily timecards accurately and on timeSubmit daily labour, equipment, and materials reportsWho You Are
You’re a skilled tradesperson who takes pride in precision, safety, and reliability. You’re comfortable working under pressure, asking questions when needed, and sharing ideas that improve outcomes. Whether working independently or alongside others, you bring a positive attitude and a strong sense of responsibility to everything you do.
You Have
Red Seal “C” Ticket or higher, with fabrication experience preferredStrong attention to detail with a safety‑first mindsetAbility to read and understand technical documents, blueprints, manuals, and metallurgy‑related informationIn‑depth knowledge of welding techniques and best practicesFlexibility and resilience in fast‑paced, operational environmentsStrong oral and written communication skillsEffective time management and organizational skillsWillingness to travel regionally to support jobsites as requiredA valid Class 5 Driver’s LicenceWhat’s In It for You
