Nature and Scope
The Project Accountant is responsible for performing regular accounting functions and supporting budget and forecast analysis within the Finance department. This position prepares accounting entries, updates budgets and forecasts, and runs preliminary financial reports that form the foundation for program-level financial planning and decision-making. The role requires accuracy, confidentiality, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. This position will positively promote and create an environment that demonstrates SIIT's vision, mission, and mandate.
General Accountability
The Project Accountant ensures timely and accurate processing of accounting transactions, preparation of journal entries, and maintenance of financial records. The position supports the development and monitoring of budgets and forecasts, generates preliminary financial reports, and provides data integrity for analysis performed by the senior Finance team. This role handles sensitive financial information and must maintain confidentiality while meeting strict deadlines and mitigating the risk of costly errors. Required Qualifications and Experience : A diploma or degree in accounting / business or a related field of study is required. A minimum of two years of accounting and reporting experience is required; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Experience with budgeting and forecasting is preferred. Knowledge of First Nations cultures and organizations would be an asset. As an employee in the Finance department, this position is subject to accept or handle monies on behalf of SIIT. Therefore, a cleared criminal record check (CRC) is required.
