The Family Service Worker works as part of the Child Protection Team to provide families with support in the areas of parenting, budgeting, life skills, family preservation and reunification. This involves working flexible hours outside of normal working hours in order to assist families.
Duties will include but are not limited to :
- Providing individual or family support in areas, such as parenting knowledge / skills, life skills, assessing safety risk factors, budgeting skills / money management, conflict resolution, and building self esteem;
- Assisting clients to develop their own community / family based support network;
- Assisting clients in connecting with other available community resources;
- Working with parent(s) to develop improved skills regarding child care, coping skills, household maintenance and other relevant lifeskills;
- Facilitating and supervising family visits;
- Communicating and conferencing with Child Protection Social Workers and foster care providers;
- Reviewing caseload with the Supervisor and Child Protection Social Workers on a regular basis to review the progress of the case and make any necessary adjustments to the case plan;
- Providing support to foster caregivers and children-in-care;
- Transporting clients, infants, children and youth in care;
- Providing evidence in Court proceedings under the Child Protection Act;
- Facilitating group work;
- Completing daily case notes and maintaining client files on ISM;
- Other duties as required.
