Job description :

Title : Powered Lift Truck Technician

Location : Ontario

Required hours : 7,000 hours per year of Full time employment

Overview :

The Powered Lift Truck Technician is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining powered lift trucks (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks, reach trucks) and other material handling equipment. This role ensures that equipment is in good working order to enhance operational efficiency and safety in warehouse, distribution, or manufacturing settings. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills and experience working with various types of lift trucks and industrial equipment.

Key Responsibilities :

Inspection and Diagnostics :

Conduct routine inspections and diagnostics on powered lift trucks to identify potential issues, including mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.

Perform preventative maintenance tasks such as checking and changing fluids, inspecting tires, and lubricating moving parts to prolong the life of equipment.

Repairs and Maintenance :

Repair and replace faulty components, including motors, batteries, transmissions, hydraulics, and other mechanical or electrical parts.

Troubleshoot lift truck issues, including battery and electrical problems, hydraulic system failures, and engine malfunctions.

Repair or replace worn-out tires, wheels, and brakes to ensure safety and performance.

Safety and Compliance :

Ensure all lift trucks meet industry safety standards and local regulatory requirements, including OSHA regulations.

Conduct safety checks before each shift to ensure that all equipment is in safe operating condition.

Communicate any safety hazards or potential issues to management or operators to prevent accidents.

Test and Calibration :

Perform testing on repaired or newly serviced lift trucks to ensure functionality and safety.

Calibrate and adjust controls, settings, and other components to restore machines to optimal performance.

Parts Management and Inventory :

Assist in maintaining an inventory of spare parts and materials for repairs and routine maintenance.

Order and track parts required for repairs and maintenance, ensuring that the right parts are available when needed.

Work with suppliers to source high-quality replacement parts and ensure cost-effective maintenance solutions.

Customer Service and Support :

Provide technical support to operators and other staff members regarding lift truck operation and maintenance.

Communicate clearly with operators to identify problems and advise on proper usage, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Record Keeping and Documentation :

Maintain detailed records of repairs, maintenance activities, parts usage, and any work performed on lift trucks.

Complete maintenance logs and reports, tracking service intervals and machine status for future reference.

Document any warranty claims and track repairs that are covered under manufacturer warranties.

Workplace Organization :

Keep the service area clean, organized, and safe by following standard operating procedures.

Ensure tools, equipment, and parts are properly maintained and stored.

Qualifications : Education :

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Completion of a vocational program or certification in mechanical or electrical engineering, automotive technology, or a related field is preferred.

Experience :

2-3 years of experience in servicing and repairing powered lift trucks, forklifts, or similar material handling equipment.

Experience with electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and internal combustion engines is highly preferred.

Skills :

Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.

Ability to diagnose and repair lift truck systems, including engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and electrical components.

Familiarity with various types of lift trucks, including internal combustion, electric, and hybrid models.

Knowledge of safety standards, maintenance procedures, and industry regulations related to powered lift trucks.

Proficiency in using hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and lift truck repair machines.

Certifications :

Certification in lift truck repair or material handling equipment maintenance is a plus.

Valid driver’s license, and possibly a certification to operate powered lift trucks.

OSHA forklift safety certification or equivalent may be required, or the ability to obtain one.

Physical Requirements :

Ability to lift heavy components and equipment (up to 50 lbs).

Ability to kneel, crouch, or bend for extended periods while inspecting or repairing lift trucks.

Ability to work in a warehouse or industrial setting, including exposure to loud noises, dust, and various mechanical tools.

Comfortable working in confined spaces or at heights while servicing equipment.
