Regular Full-Time Traffic Engineering Technologist – 2 Positions
Reporting to the Manager, Traffic and Streetlighting, or designate, provide technical guidance and assistance to traffic engineering related matters, as well as, maintain, improve and provide technical support for the City’s Streetlighting System and Municipal Parking System.
Responsibilities :
- Receive complaints and inquiries by phone, in writing, or in person on all traffic engineering concerns, and respond accordingly
- Plan and undertake traffic and parking studies and surveys, analyze results, and make recommendations
- Prepare follow-up departmental and committee reports, and by-law recommendations to Council
- Review and provide comments and conditions on development applications, technical reports, related agreements, and construction projects, as requested
- Create and maintain branch databases, maps, and plans
- Provide emergency school crossing guard coverage in a timely manner
- Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements :
Completion of a three (3) year Transportation Engineering Technology program from an accredited post-secondary institution, plus three (3) years of relevant traffic engineering experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experienceAdvanced experience and skills in Microsoft Office and related software (i.e. specialized traffic / transportation engineering programs, GIS, AutoCad)Excellent research, analytical, mathematical skills and experience with traffic study methodologiesGood communication skills, both oral and written, and customer service skills to deal effectively with staff and the general publicAbility to work independently and to work under pressureCurrent registration as a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) with OACETT is considered an assetAbility to provide own transportation as requiredOntario Traffic Conference courses / seminars would be considered an assetThis position is eligible for hybrid work. As a condition of employment, the City of Oshawa will require successful candidates to undergo a Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check.
