About Us

The Department of Emergency Management leads disaster and emergency planning, preparedness, response, and recovery activities for the Province of Nova Scotia. The Incident Management and 911 Branch coordinates provincial responses, manages critical infrastructure partner resources, and modernises the emergency 911 system.

Primary Accountabilities

This supervisory role maintains a real‑time operational picture for government decision‑makers and partners, ensuring continuous 24 / 7 situational awareness. Responsibilities include :

• Serve as a subject‑matter expert on the National Alert Ready system, assisting stakeholders with troubleshooting and ensuring effective alerting processes.
• Provide timely updates to stakeholders, upload maps to critical incident websites, and present information using dashboards and mapping tools.
• Review, compile, and analyse data to assist emergency response efforts and maintain accurate record‑keeping.
• Lead or assist in developing standard operating procedures, policies, and projects including updates to the Disaster Financial Assistance Program and mapping.
• Maintain up‑to‑date and accessible databases, assist during PCC activations, and contribute to innovative program implementation.
• Coordinate and communicate with emergency‑management partners (police, fire, volunteer organizations) before, during, and after responses; attend meetings, conferences, training, and regional exercises.

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in emergency management, public safety, or a related field, plus at least 6 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Working Conditions

The PCC Supervisor functions in a high‑stress, time‑critical environment, determining the validity, urgency, and significance of information. The PCC Watch Unit operates 24 / 7. Supervisors work a combination of 12‑hour day and night shifts, including weekends and statutory holidays. Travel to remote sites, vehicle operation, and potential inclement weather may be required. The role may entail longer than normal working hours, overtime, and on‑call duty for emergency response and recovery.
