CNC, TOOLING, AND FIXTURING EXPERT

Salary Range : $65,000 - $110,000 CAD base salary
Work Schedule : On-site, Monday to Friday days, as well as occasional evening and weekend work
This is a newly created role. The highly skilled CNC, Tooling, and Fixturing Expert will work in our precision machine shop team. This role is essential for driving efficient, accurate, and high‑quality machining operations through expert‑level knowledge of CNC programming, tooling selection, fixture design, and automation integration. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience with CNC machines, a deep understanding of G code, machining principles, and the ability to optimize setups and workflows for productivity and repeatability.
Responsibilities
CNC Programming and Operations
- Develop, edit, and optimize CNC programs manually or using CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360).
- Set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, and multi‑axis machines for diamond tool grinding operations, and hand off to production operators.
- Troubleshoot and resolve machining issues to maintain production quality.
Tooling Expertise
Select and maintain grinding tools and tool holders for various materials and machining operations.Monitor tool wear and recommend improvements for tool life and performance.Collaborate with vendors to evaluate and implement new tooling technologies.Inform on feasibility of machining of new parts.Design and request for purchase of new tooling (new dies and CNC tooling) in coordination with procurement.Fixturing and Set‑up
Design and build fixturing solutions for manufacturing workstations to support ergonomic, safe, and efficient manual operations.Design and fabricate custom fixtures and jigs to improve machining accuracy and efficiency.Ensure fixturing solutions support repeatable setups and minimize cycle times.Automation Integration
Work with third‑party vendors to implement automation solutions such as robotic arms, auto loaders, and probing systems into machining workflows.Collaborate with automation engineers (internal or third party) to streamline production and reduce manual intervention.Maintain and troubleshoot automated systems to ensure consistent performance.Process Optimization
Analyze machining and related processes as well as workstation fixturing and recommend improvements for speed, accuracy, and cost‑effectiveness.Incorporate lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives.Quality Assurance
Inspect parts using precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, CMMs, calipers) and inform quality as needed.Ensure all machined components meet tight tolerances and customer specifications.Documentation and Training
Maintain detailed setup sheets, drawings, tooling lists, and fixture documentation.Train junior machinists and operators on best practices and improvements on CNC operation, setup, and automation use.Qualifications
5+ years of experience in CNC machining, tooling, and fixturing.Proficiency in CAD / CAM software and G‑code programming.Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of machining principles.Experience with fixture design and fabrication for both CNC machines and manual workstations.Knowledge of automation systems and integration in a machining environment.Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.Excellent problem‑solving and communication skills.High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate degree preferred.Preferred Skills
Experience with multi‑axis CNC machines (e.g., 5‑axis).Familiarity with robotic integration and automated material handling.Knowledge of materials science and machining of exotic alloys.Background in lean manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies.What’s In It For You
