Acconting Manager

Job Description: Accounting Manager – 1-year contract

Our client in Kitchener is seeking an Accounting Manager for a 1-year contract. The successful candidate will oversee day-to-day management of AP/AR functions, lead month-end and year-end close activities, and handle trust accounting reconciliations related to real estate closings. The ideal professional is hands-on, detail-oriented, eager to learn, and able to manage competing deadlines in a collaborative team environment. Working arrangement is onsite, 5 days weekly. Free parking is available.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee and execute full-cycle Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable processes, ensuring accurate and timely record-keeping.
• Conduct bank and trust account reconciliations, especially in conjunction with month-end (due by the 23rd of the following month) and year-end close processes.
• Prepare and review financial statements, cash flow reports, and handle trust accounting specific to real estate closings.
• Manage the monthly closing process, ensuring transaction completeness and reconciliation accuracy.
• Prepare and post journal entries; review and ensure proper documentation for all entries.
• Perform advanced Excel analyses, including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs, to support reporting and reconciliations.
• Support or lead a small team as business needs require.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls and maintain records in accordance with law/real estate industry standards.
• Adapt to learning new tasks and accounting systems as required.

Qualifications:

• CPA designation (or international equivalent) is preferred.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience as an Accounting Manager, Controller, or similar, with direct AP/AR and trust accounting background.
• Experience with trust accounting or real estate/law firm accounting systems is a strong asset.
• Strong Excel skills, including pivots and VLOOKUP functions, required.
• Demonstrated proficiency in real estate closing processes or related financial operations, preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and learn new tasks quickly.
