Role Description

This is a full-time on-site Planner 1 role located in Calmar, AB. The Planner 1 will assist the Town of Calmar with ensuring sustainable land development and community growth by reviewing and analyzing planning applications and proposals for compliance with policies and regulations. Daily tasks include conducting development reviews, preparing reports, providing recommendations to stakeholders, and engaging with the public, developers, and council members to address planning-related matters. The role requires collaboration with various departments to support effective municipal planning initiatives.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in development reviews, zoning, land use policy interpretation, and regulatory compliance
• Strong research, analysis, and report preparation skills
• Knowledge of urban planning tools, GIS mapping, and land‑use planning practices
• Excellent communication, public engagement, and stakeholder collaboration skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a team environment
• Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Geography, or a related field
• Eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) or a related professional body is preferred
• Previous experience in municipal planning is an asset
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision‑making abilities
