The Centre for Accessible Learning (CAL) acts as a liaison between students and faculty in the implementation of disability-related accommodations and services. CAL is responsible for upholding SFU's General Policy 26 ("Accessibility for students with Disabilities") and also advocates on issues related to diversity, educational equity, and academic achievement.

About the Role

The Disability Access Advisor (DAA) works directly with students to determine their eligibility for disability-related accommodations, establish necessary accommodations and provide additional referrals to ensure students are appropriately supported. This role regularly liaises with instructors and other service units to ensure implementation of accommodations. This DAA's work is guided by SFU's General Policy 26 and Human Rights law and plays a critical role in ensuring students with disabilities receive fair and equitable access to their learning experience.

The ideal candidate for this position has excellent knowledge of disability assessment and legislation and an understanding of how to assess relevant documentation in the post-secondary context. They have demonstrated excellence in communicating decisions through a student-centered lens and working collaboratively with stakeholders to establish and implement accommodations. Additionally, the ideal candidate possesses outstanding oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively navigate conflict. Qualifications

Master's degree in Counseling, Clinical or Educational Psychology, Post-Secondary Accessibility or a related discipline, and three years of related experience in areas such as working with vulnerable student populations in a post-secondary environment, student-facing developmental advising or case management within Student Affairs or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Good knowledge of issues of equity, diversity and intersectionality and demonstrated ability to exercise sensitivity when dealing with related issues and populations.
  • Excellent knowledge of disability assessment, measurement and psychometrics including an understanding of their strengths and weaknesses, and the ability to evaluate them critically.
  • Good knowledge of guidelines, procedures and regulations and the ability to interpret and apply them to the work unit.
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to initiate innovative and creative projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills.

Additional Information

The assignment end date is March 31, 2027.

Preference for a minimum of 5 years relevant experience.

Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required, particularly during final exam periods. Occasional work at the Surrey Campus may also be required.

This position will require a Criminal Records check as the position will require the individual to work with minors.
