The Opportunity
An exciting career opportunity is available with our Underwriting Services team within GCS Operations as an Underwriting Assistant, based in our downtown Toronto office. In this role, you will play a meaningful part in supporting our GCS Underwriting teams—professionals who are motivated every day to think bigger, deliver better outcomes for our customers, and achieve strong results.
This position is ideal for someone eager to learn, grow, and build a long-term career in underwriting. As a valued member of the Underwriting Services team, you will be on a clear development path toward an underwriting career while gaining hands-on experience in commercial insurance operations.
You will support the GCS National Underwriting team by processing commercial policies and underwriting transactions within assigned authority, including new business, renewals, endorsements, and reporting. Accuracy, attention to detail, and efficiency are essential, as you will provide administrative and clerical support to underwriters and other key stakeholders, ensuring documentation and workflows are completed to a high standard.
What you’ll do
Working both collaboratively and autonomously while ensuring deadlines are met as part of a hybrid team is critical to the success of this role
Assisting GCS Central Support in logging new submissions, processing declinatures and as back up to Service Support Assistants
Assisting GCS Underwriting with renewal and endorsement preparation as assigned while completing electronic filing of underwriting documents
Assisting GCS Central Support and Underwriting preparing loss control reports, ordering D&B reports, preparing various analysis reports, insurance binders and other documents as required for underwriters and key stakeholders
Responding to broker service requests on behalf of underwriting as well as following up on information needed from brokers on behalf of underwriting
Data entry in RTM, RTG, Salesforce and inhouse systems while ensuring the integrity of data is top priority
Timely reconciliation of financial discrepancies working collaboratively and effectively with GCS Stakeholders
Produce reports, presentations and information summaries as required
Special projects as required
What you’ll bring
Post-secondary education (degree, diploma, or relevant accreditation) combined with solid office experience.
Ideally, 2+ years of commercial insurance or finance experience in an administrative or support role, with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, plus strong time-management skills in an underwriting or finance environment.
Comfortable working independently while remaining accountable to multiple teams and delivering on responsibilities with confidence.
Excellent proficiency with web and DOS-based systems, databases, and advanced knowledge of MS Teams, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels—both internally and externally.
Superior organizational skills and the ability to manage workflow accurately and efficiently without constant supervision.
Flexible and able to prioritize and re-prioritize tasks in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while maintaining accuracy and composure.
Committed to self-development and eager to learn, with a genuine interest in building a career in the commercial insurance space.

What you’ll get
The salary band for this position ranges from $45,000 to $60,000. Please note that individual salary is determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills and experience, as well as internal equity.
