PavCo is hiring a Manager, Payroll and Benefits, who is a results-driven leader known for organizational skills and attention to detail. Join our team at PavCo, where you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping our People and Culture initiatives while leading a talented team of two payroll professionals.

Reporting to the Senior Director, People and Culture, the Manager, Payroll and Benefits is responsible for ensuring the seamless administration of payroll and benefits functions across both unionized and non-unionized teams. In this role, you will oversee timely and accurate payroll processing while ensuring adherence to provincial and federal legislation, policies, and standards.

Interested candidates must be flexible in order to work weekends, stat holidays and post 8 to 4pm business hours.

WHAT YOU WILL DO :

  • Oversee and ensure accurate and timely processing and pay of all payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, taxes, and other deductions.
  • Responsible for the preparation of payroll and benefit statements including remittances to the Receiver General, pension plan, extended health / dental, Life, LTD and other insurance providers, including Employer Health Tax (EHT).
  • Administer and maintain employee payroll files and records.
  • Oversee and lead the operations of the Payroll and Benefits team in processing and administering all payroll related functions and services.
  • Hire, train, coach and support development of payroll team members and contractors to have a good understanding of all payroll and benefits related policies, procedures and systems.
  • Sets cascading team goals and support payroll team members with prioritization of work; carry out performance evaluations.
  • Provide people managers with payroll processing onboarding and training to support timely payroll processing and pay policy compliance.
  • Consistent and timely reporting; (Pension, EHT and CRA).
  • Facilitate communications with managers across the organization to ensure accurate and timely payroll is processed, which ensures compliance to pay policies.
  • Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all payroll-related inquiries.
  • Remain current and well informed of legal and regulatory requirements that have an impact on the organization’s payroll management, compensation and benefits. Adopt requirements and communicate changes to management and stakeholders as needed.
  • Support an environment of innovation and continual improvement within the payroll processing system.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING :

  • Undergraduate degree preferred in a related discipline that includes studies in Human Resources, Accounting, or Finance.
  • PCP or CPM designation preferred (or willingness to obtain designation within reasonable timeframe).
  • Minimum of 5 years payroll processing experience in a leadership role. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Preference to those with Dayforce experience.
  • Strong aptitude for systems and data management such as Microsoft Office.
  • Experience in a large public sector organization and union environment is an asset.
  • Expert knowledge of current Canadian payroll principles and practices and legislative requirements as they impact payroll.
  • Experience processing full-cycle payroll in a complex environment, including general analysis and reporting, with experience in accounting functions related to payroll.
  • Knowledge and understanding of basic accounting and human resources principles and concepts and Employment Standards.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective, lasting professional relationships accompanied by a demonstrated customer focus.
  • Strong organizational abilities, a keen attention to detail, proven problem solving and decision-making skills and the ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • The salary range for this position is $ 80,307- 100,384 . Successful candidates will also receive benefits, paid vacation, three Wellness days and will be eligible for the BC Public Service Pension Plan.
