Reporting to the Director, Payroll, the Payroll Tax Coordinator ensures compliance on payroll tax laws and regulations for all Nutrien entities in Canada and will support USA Payroll Tax. Engage in processing, analyzing, and reconciling payroll tax activities and serve as liaison with ADP vendor.

This position is located in Calgary, AB.

What you will do :

  • File Federal, Provincial, State and local tax returns for all companies
  • File unemployment taxes, employer health tax, including updating rates in the payroll system
  • Review notices via ADP Smart Compliance to ensure state and local tax accounts compliance and work closely with ADP and agencies for resolution
  • Assist with SAP system testing concerning all tax updates
  • Resolve issues related to tax return filings, including penalty notices and abatement requests in a timely manner
  • Register new tax jurisdictions and make updates to existing agencies
  • Work with external / internal auditing companies to gather documentation for payroll tax, worker's compensation, and unemployment audits
  • Ensure tax compliance through regular audits
  • Amend tax returns as needed
  • Balance quarterly US and Canada tax
  • Answer employees' questions on their year-end form

What you will bring :

  • Attainment of high school diploma
  • 5+ years of Payroll tax experience; detailed working knowledge with SAP payroll system, payroll processes, and payroll tax compliance procedures; or formal education through a recognized post-secondary learning institute with 4 years related experience
  • Working experience of payroll tax at the Federal and Provincial / State levels
  • Strong professional skill set in task prioritization, multiple task management, independent work performance, and detail-focused job orientation
  • Experience in a high-volume payroll tax department highly desirable
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with IRS reporting and withholding rules
  • Preferred candidate will have both Canada & USA payroll tax experience
  • Strong communication skills are a must
