Grow and develop your career in geomorphology and water resources with a team of experienced geomorphologists, engineers and scientists

Contribute to solving complex environmental challenges related to urbanization, resource management and climate change on watercourses in Ontario and across other geographies.

Partner and build relationships with, long standing clients such as municipal governments, conservation authorities, academia, and private industry.

As a Fluvial Geomorphologist, you will join our Guelph or Mississauga, Ontario office as part of our Eastern Surface Water Team. The successful person will work with a diverse team of fluvial geomorphologists, water resource engineers and ecologists to lead or participate in a variety of projects related to river processes. You will also support a variety of broader water resources projects, including : stream restoration and natural channel design; erosion hazard and environmental assessments; subwatershed studies and impact evaluations; watercourse management plans; and other applied geomorphology projects.

Your key responsibilities will be :

Active participation in maintaining Matrix’s strong safety culture

Manage and execute a variety of geomorphology projects

Provide technical input into stream restoration projects based on channel processes

Mentor and train junior team members on field data collection and reporting support

Complete geomorphic and hydraulic analyses to evaluate channel erosion thresholds : undertake field data collection exercises, as required; including data synthesis, and work with various forms of spatial information, including digital topographic data and aerial imagery

Assist in erosion hazard assessment studies and evaluate risks

Assist in the completion of performance monitoring studies

Prepare technical reports, work plans, and support business development initiatives including drafting proposals

Build strong client relationships and liaise with stakeholders within various sectors

Assist multidisciplinary project teams to achieve project goals and objectives

Advance individual knowledge and experience in watershed management, stream restoration, and applied geomorphology through on the job training and mentorship by senior staff

Travel as required within Southern Ontario to support field programs

What We Are Looking For

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental or Earth sciences, Physical Geography, Water Resources / Environmental Engineering, or closely related field A graduate degree would be considered an asset.

7 years of experience in fluvial geomorphology or water resources engineering, specifically related to the assessment, design, and construction of water resources projects, with a particular focus on projects related to natural channel restoration

Eligible for, or registered as a Professional Geoscientist or Professional Engineer

Strong analytical and field capabilities

Have a professional, collaborative approach, and the ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team providing outstanding client service

Knowledge and experience in natural channel design concepts, surface water management, design / drafting software, as well as hydraulic / hydrologic and sediment transport models

Complimentary skill sets such as hydrology, aquatic biology and familiarity with engineering models HEC-RAS), ArcGIS software and AutoCAD would be an asset

Strong ability to convey complex concepts in a clear and concise manner, both verbally and written

A client-focused, self-motivated individual, possessing strong interpersonal and communication skills

A valid Class G driver’s license with no restrictions
