What you will be doing

Please note : This role can be based remotely from anywhere in Canada

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Manages the day-to-day responsibilities of compensation programs such as base pay and incentive pay; ensures equity across the businesses as well as applicable pay equity legislation.

Evaluates and compares existing compensation structure with those of other employers by analyzing plans, surveys, and other sources of information.

Works closely with HR business partners and Talent Acquisition Partners across one or more business units to provide guidance, training, trends, analysis and recommendations as it relates to compensation-related pay practices and challenges.

Plans, develops, and / or participates in industry salary surveys; analyzes results of surveys and develops specific recommendations for review by management; identifies credible survey sources and updates compensation reference library.

Assists in the design specifications for new base pay and incentive plans or recommends modifications to existing plans in order to maintain AB’s competitive position in the labor market.

Reviews geographic differentials annually and makes recommendations for changes, if necessary.

Utilizes updated reference materials to determine need for salary structure movement; makes recommendations for changes to salary structure.

Implements approved plans and modifications by preparing communication materials, booklets, and other materials for associates; responsible for maintaining communication material up to date.

Manages the evaluation process for newly created positions using established evaluation system and determines grade assignment, ensuring internal and external equity.

Works with HR Business Partners to update job descriptions for new and existing positions and maintains job description library to ensure updated descriptions by position are accessible to HR associates company-wide.

Manages the process for any quarterly and annual incentive programs by ensuring that associates are paid according to schedule and correctly based on a number of performance measures.

Works with vendors and partners on any necessary pay equity analysis and filing completion.

Contributes to the design and financial modeling of incentive plans and practices.

Responsible for managing the efforts relative to the merit increase cycle and schedule; ensures that summary reports are generated for use by the Compensation Review Committee.

Performs related duties as assigned.

What your background should look like

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS :

Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, finance or human resources; five (5) years experience in compensation management and administration; Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) required.

MINIMUM SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS :

Practical knowledge and application of compensation programs and regulations, employment and other applicable laws

Strong financial acumen

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

Strong presentation skills

Strong analytical and mathematical skills; attention to detail

Strong conceptual and problem solving skills to evaluate problems and apply knowledge to identify appropriate solutions; ability to resolve issues effectively and efficiently

Proven process and project management skills

Strong interpersonal skills; ability to interact with all levels of management

Ability to manage and diffuse conflict

Strong staff development skills; ability to coach and mentor intermediate or junior level analysts

Strong organizational skills

Ability to meet deadlines

Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office applications - specifically Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint
