Trust Accountant

We are looking for a dedicated Trust Accountant to join our team in Markham, Ontario. In this long-term contract position, you will play a key role in managing and maintaining trust fund accounting operations within the health insurance industry. This opportunity is ideal for individuals with strong accounting expertise and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.

Responsibilities:
• Maintain general ledger transactions and prepare journal entries with accuracy and timeliness.
• Reconcile balance sheet and income statement accounts to ensure financial integrity.
• Prepare comprehensive monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Manage government remittances and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Monitor cash flow activities and facilitate bank transfers for surplus funds.
• Reconcile investment accounts and coordinate transfers between custodians, investment managers, and client bank accounts.
• Compile and deliver detailed cash flow, investment, and other reports tailored to client needs.
• Organize working papers and provide support during annual audits.
• Respond to client inquiries and provide solutions to accounting-related issues.
• Oversee daily accounting operations to meet client expectations.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in full-cycle accounting, financial statement preparation, and investment management.
• Diploma or degree in business administration with a specialization in accounting; a detail-oriented accounting designation or student status is an asset.
• Proficient in computer applications, including intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
• Strong teamwork orientation, with solid mathematical and accounting knowledge.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Familiarity with Accpac/Sage software is advantageous.
• Experience with accounting software systems and ERP solutions.
• Ability to handle reconciliations, audits, and ad hoc financial tasks efficiently.
