HireArt is helping an on-demand, autonomous ride-hailing company find a Hardware Engineer - Test Development to support the development, execution, and documentation of component- and system-level hardware testing.
In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with suppliers, design engineers, and systems engineering teams to characterize and validate the functional performance of sensing and compute hardware platforms. You’ll support both early prototype development testing and qualification testing for production-intent vehicle modules.
The ideal candidate is hands-on, technically curious, self-motivated, and excited to work on advanced hardware systems within a fast-paced engineering environment.
As a Hardware Engineer - Test Development, you'll:- Develop and execute component- and system-level hardware validation and qualification tests.
- Utilize oscilloscopes, environmental chambers, network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and other electrical test equipment to characterize hardware performance.
- Create test setups, block diagrams, bills of materials (BoMs), and detailed test plans to support validation activities.
- Develop custom test assets including load simulators, test harnesses, automation scripts, and diagnostic tools.
- Collaborate with suppliers, procurement teams, and engineering partners to support test infrastructure and hardware development projects.
- Draft and present test plans, design reviews, test readiness reviews, and data review documentation.
- Support documentation reviews for engineering standards, design releases, and risk assessment activities.
- Partner cross-functionally with hardware, systems, and integration teams to troubleshoot issues and improve testing methodologies.
- Travel within the Bay Area as needed to support testing and development activities.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline
- 4+ years of professional engineering experience
- 2+ years of experience supporting electronics or hardware development activities
- Experience testing electronic, automotive, aerospace, robotics, or vehicle-related hardware systems
- Experience with hardware design and engineering development tools
- Experience with PCBA design tools such as Altium preferred
- Experience with 3D modeling tools such as 3DEXPERIENCE or CATIA preferred
- Hands-on experience using laboratory equipment, including oscilloscopes, environmental chambers, electronic loads, VNAs, TDRs, and spectrum analyzers
- Experience working with Ubuntu and Python
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and technical communication skills
- Ability to travel within the Bay Area as needed
Bonus Qualifications:- A master’s degree or Ph.D. in engineering or a related discipline
- Participation in engineering competitions or technical programs such as SAE, FIRST, or DARPA initiatives
- Foundational knowledge of systems architecture, networking, memory hierarchy, storage systems, and LAN technologies
- Experience with Ethernet switching chipsets, PCIe, CAN compliance, or related communication technologies
- Familiarity with simulation tools such as Ansys
- Experience with common bus protocols, including SPI, I2C, and MDIO
- Familiarity with data acquisition systems such as UEI or Keysight platforms
- Experience with requirements and test case management tools such as Polarion
- Familiarity with Atlassian tools, including Jira and Confluence

Commitment: This is a full-time, ongoing contract position staffed via HireArt. It will be onsite and available to candidates who are local to the Foster City, CA area.
