This position assists in providing a wide range of semi-skilled routine and preventative maintenance, general repair and upgrading work. The position performs hands-on maintenance work which is necessary to maintain the Housing Services rental stock in good condition, and also serves as a liaison between the tenants and Housing Services staff.
Duties will include but not limited to :
- Repair or replace eavestroughs, replace down spouts and keep dripstones in proper position.
- Check operation of clothes dryers, washers, ranges, refrigerators, clothes lines, and other equipment; make repairs when required and possible.
- Complete plumbing repairs or replacement of sinks, drains, and toilets, e.g., unplugs stopped toilets, replaces wax seals, replaces tap washers.
- Replace or repair various types of flooring including tiles, laminate and carpet.
- Repair windows and doors, e.g., replacing broken glass or screens in doors and windows and some hardware.
- Inspect and ensure cleanliness and neatness of common areas, grounds, paved areas, maintenance areas, stock areas, furnace rooms and crawl spaces.
- Maintain good relationship with the tenants and maintains a good working relationship with the Housing Officers on social problems of tenants by providing information and assistance.
- Receive, investigate and resolve issues reported by tenants in the most appropriate efficient manner minimizing inconvenience to tenants as much as possible; respond to tenant concerns in a respectful, timely manner.
- Review fire safety procedures with tenants and have tenant sign the fire safety form.
- Maintain necessary records for maintenance and control systems, e.g., work orders, inspection checklists.
- Complete the daily log for government owned vehicles, key control and properly schedule routine maintenance and repairs for the vehicle
- Assist other Housing Services staff in their duties as required.
