Description de posteRequires completion of a trade school certification program, an apprenticeship in related technology, and : Gas A Certification Requirements : A minimum of two (2) years of experience holding a valid BC Class A Gas Fitter Certificate of Qualification. Or Gas B Certification Requirements : A minimum of five (5) years of experience holding a valid BC Class B Gas Fitter Certificate of Qualification. Knowledge of audit programs and risk assessment techniques. Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills. Ability to work in a computerized environment and use standard software. Strong communication skills; ability to manage tense situations and de-escalate when necessary. Ability to persuade, negotiate and educate to ensure adherence to safety requirements. Will be required to successfully complete a Gas Inspector’s Certificate of Qualification Examination to complete probation. Successful completion is defined as a 70% or better score. Ability to work in a computerized environment and use common software. A Valid BC Drivers’ License and a willingness to travel (A driver’s abstract will be requested). Good physical ability to carry a toolbox (up to 30 lbs.), climb ladders and stairways, walk on rough, uneven ground, enter tight enclosed or confined spaces, and drive for long distances (A medical assessment will be requested). The Opportunity
The Safety Officer is accountable to the Operations Leader for maintaining and enhancing public safety by educating the public and industry and ensuring that the Safety Standards Act, regulations and adopted codes and standards are understood and observed.

Pay Grade : 16 ($47.20 - $54.64 per hour)
Location : Northern (Fort St. John and surrounding areas) (hybrid work environment)
Reports to : Operations Leader, Energy
As a Safety Officer, Gas, you will :
- Uphold the Safety Standards Act, regulations, and adopted codes and standards within an established geographical area by conducting inspections, evaluating / auditing client work, and raising public awareness.
- Educate clients on how to meet safety requirements by providing on-site guidance or over-the-phone support.
- Document inspections to ensure work meets Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Maintain expertise on rapidly changing technology by staying up to date on relevant industry changes and upgrading own knowledge and skill on an ongoing basis.
- Support the development of new Safety Officers by providing on-the-job training, regular mentoring and ongoing technical guidance.
