Title : The Technical Architect – Communications
Location : Toronto, Ontario (Remote)
Job Description :
The role involves designing, governing, and evolving enterprise and operational communication architectures within Energy & Utilities environments. The position ensures that communication platforms and networks are secure, resilient, scalable, and aligned with business, operational technology, and regulatory requirements. It supports critical infrastructure such as control centers, field operations, smart grid systems, and enterprise collaboration platforms.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong experience in designing enterprise and / or operational communications architectures
- Deep understanding of communication technologies including IP networks, voice and unified communications, wireless technologies, and SCADA and OT communication protocols
- Experience integrating IT and OT communication environments
- Knowledge of high-availability and mission-critical system design
- Proven experience in the Energy & Utilities sector
- Familiarity with utility operational environments, field operations, and control systems
- Understanding of regulatory, safety, and compliance requirements impacting communications
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
Architecture or networking certifications (e.g., TOGAF, CCNP / CCIE, cloud certifications)Experience with smart grid, AMI, or critical infrastructure modernization programsExposure to cloud and hybrid architectures in regulated environmentsDay-to-Day Responsibilities
Define and own the end-to-end communications architecture across IT and OT environmentsDesign secure, resilient communication solutions supporting critical energy and utility operationsProvide architectural leadership for voice, data, video, radio, and network communications platformsEnsure alignment with industry standards and regulatory requirementsCollaborate with cybersecurity teams to embed security-by-design principlesSupport modernization initiatives including smart grids, IoT, cloud integration, and digital transformationProduce architecture artefacts including reference architectures, roadmaps, standards, and design patternsEvaluate emerging communication technologies and vendors for applicability within Energy & UtilitiesProvide technical governance and assurance across projects and programsAct as a key technical advisor to stakeholders including operations, engineering, vendors, and leadershipFor immediate consideration please click APPLY to begin the screening process with Alex.
