Summary
Under the direction of the Health & Wellness Manager, the Cultural Support is responsible for providing cultural learning, guidance, and support to clients and families. This position will deliver cultural and emotional support through traditional, cultural, and relevant health and wellness programming for Anishinabek within the Espanola catchment area.
Job Duties
- Provide cultural and emotional support through the delivery of traditional / cultural and relevant health and wellness programming
- Schedule and coordinate appointments for Traditional Healer and Knowledge Keeper visits with clients and families / caregivers
- Provide health support services through intake / referral (i.e., primary care, mental health and addictions, health and wellness) both individual and group sessions
- Maintain records and file management, data collection within an electronic medical record (EMR)
- Provide wellness checks and follow‑up
- Offer cultural and emotional support at events and gatherings
- Coordinate, attend, and participate in family cultural support and grief circles
- Ensure referrals are directed to appropriate service delivery both internally and externally
- Engage with interprofessional team members and external partners to promote and improve access to programs and services and be an active part of clients’ circle of care
- Develop / maintain relationships and outreach with services provided in schools, hospitals, and long‑term care facilities
- Provide community education and engagement
- Design, plan, and deliver cultural programs, workshops, events, and gatherings
- Network and consult with other Community Support Providers to advocate for collaborative health care delivery
- Provide information on enhanced and expanded trauma‑informed health and cultural services
- Perform administrative duties in support of the program’s goals and objectives
- Input accurate client information and other relevant data into Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
- Prepare and provide monthly reports to support program evaluation and provide recommendations for ongoing quality improvement initiatives
- Support organizational integration, quality improvement, and cultural safety
- Ensure all work and interpersonal interactions are conducted with respect and cultural sensitivity
- Support the development and implementation of the organization’s quality improvement initiatives, toward improving health outcomes, client experiences, program service delivery, and program evaluation
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position

Post‑secondary diploma in Anishinabek studies, social service, health care delivery, community mental health, or other relevant fieldsRelated work experience within an Anishinabek organization or communityPrevious experience with the delivery of cultural programmingDemonstrates practical knowledge of traditional Anishinabek and mainstream healing practices relating to emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual wellnessGood interpersonal, listening, and communication skillsPlanning and delivering cultural awareness promotion (workshops, presentations, outreach activities)Ability to problem‑solve and take initiativeSelf‑motivated, goal‑oriented, with strong organizational skills and the ability to complete tasksMust be able to maintain confidentialityProficiency in using Microsoft Office, including database applicationsWilling to work flexible hoursValid class “G” license and own reliable vehicleAbility to travel including clear driver’s abstractClear Vulnerable Sector CheckPreferred
