The Opportunity :
The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting to fill the permanent full-time position of Fleet Utility & Technical Support Person . The Fleet Utility & Technical Support Person performs and / or arranges technical support and system maintenance and repairs for the Transit & Fleet Department and Facilities. Coordinates and performs technical support for the City of Red Deer Fleet, mobile equipment, and Fleet tracking systems. Performs daily duties to support the technical components of Fleet Services.
As our preferred candidate, you will have :
- Grade 12 with completion of a technical certificate in a related field.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered.
- One year experience in a related technical or mechanical environment, where troubleshooting and maintenance of systems and equipment is required.
- Experience in a warehouse / parts room environment is preferred.
- Good technical and mechanical aptitude for working with complex technology and other mechanical equipment including but not limited to fare boxes, camera systems, plug and play, and CNG systems. An ability to adapt to changing technology is essential. Experience working with GPS / AVL tracking technology and other technological equipment would be an asset.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Windows computer applications including Office 365 and ability to operate JDEdwards or a related inventory and work order program is required.
- Must have or be able to attain forklift certification.
- Ability to develop and maintain a good understanding of transit & fleet vehicles including electric vehicles and related maintenance, current and future Smart Transit Technology trends and practices.
- Valid Alberta Driver’s License, minimum Class 5 with Q endorsement with acceptable driver’s abstract with no more than 5 demerits showing on drivers abstract.
- Class 3 with Q endorsement is preferred.
- Detail oriented with ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines, good interpersonal skills and ability to interact and maintain effective internal and external working relationships.
- Ability to work independently and to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, the public, and other staff. Ability to provide guidance and direction to work performed by consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders as assigned.
- A criminal records check is required.

$34.72 to $36.54 per hour
Hours of Work :
80 hours biweekly; Monday to Friday, some evening and weekend work may be required when needed.
