About the Job

The Field Welder will be responsible for providing on-site repairs and maintenance on waste compactors and balers. You will work from a company repair truck and be dispatched to customer sites to perform welding repairs to recycling containers, recycling equipment, grates, railings, and other related equipment. In this role, you will be customer-facing, and responsible for providing high-level customer service and care. You will communicate directly with client users, operators, and employees to deliver a successful service visit.

Location and Hours

Location : Field Welders will have the option to take home the Metro Compactor company vehicle and be dispatched from their home location

Work Hours : 8am to 4 : 30pm | Over-time and On-Call required

Responsibilities

  • Complete welding repairs to recycling containers / recycling equipment / grates / railings (parts are manufactured in shop, welder describes the parts to the shop then picks them up and installs on site. Welder will not need to fabricate all parts but must be able to explain them through measurements).
  • Evaluate repairs at site, use of cutting torches and welder to perform various repairs.
  • Use various hand and power tools.
  • Prepare and submit Service Orders with clear communication, verbal and written.

  • Qualifications

  • Experienced in Arc / Stick welding
  • Ability to read and interpret shop drawings
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to quality workmanship
  • Willingness to work overtime when needed
  • Ability to travel to multiple locations throughout the day, work independently, and unsupervised in a company vehicle
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, professional appearance, positive attitude, and a safety first mindset
  • Comfortable working in all weather conditions year-round, wearing protective clothing while working in or near garbage, recycling, or compost material.
  • Work Environment and Conditions

    Physical Demands : A technician would be required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel.

    Must be able to drive safely for periods of up to 2 to 3 hours at a time to reach job destinations. Must be able to have manual dexterity to operate equipment and tools.

    Note on Working Conditions : Technicians often operate in environments where waste is present. It is crucial to be comfortable working near garbage and to always prioritize safety and cleanliness. Protective gear and adherence to health and safety guidelines are essential.
