Position
Senior System Engineer - Satellite Operations Control Centers (SOCC)
Location : Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec, Canada
Responsibilities
- Design a highly configurable, reusable, and adaptable SOCC architecture to meet client operational requirements.
- Contribute to SOCC architecture and design analyses, including procurement decisions.
- Develop and produce deliverables such as engineering plans, requirements specifications, interface control documents, and operational concepts.
- Develop and maintain mission-level, SOCC, and SOCC sub-system requirements for satellite operations.
- Prepare and issue requests for proposals and statements of work for subcontracted design portions.
- Review design, build, and test hardware from subcontractors to ensure compliance with requirements.
- Develop and implement integration, verification, and validation plans and procedures.
- Provide technical supervision of integration, verification, and validation activities.
- Collaborate with other teams, functions, and subcontractors to ensure problems affecting the SOCC are resolved satisfactorily across all design, development, testing, and commissioning phases.
- Develop SOCC training plans and supervise their execution.
- Lead commissioning teams (including travel to client locations worldwide) to resolve issues, contribute to client operator training, and participate in launch and initial operations (LEOP).
- Mentor and coach team members.
- Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication in English; French knowledge is a plus (products developed for non-Quebec clients).
- Support the satellite operations team during critical phases.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or higher degree in engineering or physics, preferably in aerospace, electrical engineering, or space sciences.Minimum 10 years of experience in a space systems development or operations environment, particularly in satellite Operations Control Centers (SOCC).Knowledge of satellite operations and SOCC components.Knowledge of cybersecurity standards and principles, including IAM, data exchange, data storage, etc.Experience in developing systems or software for large, complex, and critical systems.Experience working beyond contract boundaries with supplier teams for software development, integration, and testing.Strong organizational skills; ability to manage priorities, initiate activities, develop execution plans, and meet schedules with agility in a multidisciplinary environment.Ability to work autonomously and within a dynamic team.Passion for innovation; willingness to travel worldwide for LEOP and SOCC commissioning.Team spirit and willingness to learn.Familiarity with one or more of the following tools : Matlab; Python or other scripting languages; MS Excel for technical analysis; AGI’s STK (Systems Toolkit); Requirements management tools such as DOORS / Windchill / Jama.Experience in RF antenna systems is a plus.Experience in SOCC development is a plus.Experience in automated satellite operations, especially designing, developing, and testing new automated operations is a plus.Ability to break down complex problems to fundamental elements for analysis, analogy, or creativity.Experience creating or using simulation models or software.Excellent written and spoken communication skills in French; English proficiency is an asset for client interactions and English deliverables.Experience leading and mentoring a technical team.Support satellite operations during critical phases.Seniority level
