Morrison Hershfield's Transportation Division provides planning, design and construction administration services for roadway, highway, transit / rail, bridge, municipal and related projects.
We are currently seeking an Intermediate Engineer, Electrical, to join our Transit / Transportation engineering team, located at our office in Toronto, Canada.
The Intermediate Electrical Engineer is required to work within a multi-discipline team environment to design efficient and reliable electrical systems for Infrastructure, Transportation and Transit projects.
The successful candidate will assist the Senior Electrical Engineer and Project Manager to design and execute infrastructure, transportation and transit electrification projects.
The electrical design will include normal and emergency power distribution system, interior and exterior building lighting system, roadway and street lighting system, traffic signals design, EV Charging station, extra low voltage systems such as fire alarm, telecommunication, security access control, CCTV system, instrumentation, SCADA system design and execution of various Transit / Transportation systems and infrastructure related projects.

Responsibilities
- Primary Responsibilities Participate in feasibility / strategic studies related to the electrification of public transit networks.
- Applying best practices and identifying innovative solutions, carry out engineering analyses and studies.
- Design of Electrical substations including equipment specification, grounding system design.
- Design of Electrical Vehicle Charging stations
- Prepare technical memos and reports to communicate results and recommendations.
- Liaison with project team members, and other stakeholders regarding project requirements.
- Preparing engineering design drawings, layouts and specification including but not limited to Single Line Diagrams, wiring diagrams, riser diagrams, protection systems, equipment lists, cable and panel schedules, emergency power distribution, etc.
- Perform lighting level calculations using lighting software such as AGi 32, AutoLUX, etc.
- Perform short circuit, arc flash and protective device coordination studies using ETAP (or similar) power systems analysis software.
- Conduct field work including investigations, studies, inspections for electrical systems
- Application of electrical safety codes and regulations to area of expertise and ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Incorporation of safety and risk analysis into equipment designs.
- Liaise with clients, government regulatory authorities and contractors
- Ability to work with a minimum instructions and supervision, shall be able to complete tasks independently, shall make decisions and take responsibility on technical matters with input from senior engineers and project managers.
- Coordination with various disciplines and sub-consultants to ensure the technical integrity of engineering design solutions delivered by other discipline / teams on projects.
- Review progress and compliance construction with tender documents including review of shop drawings
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from a reputed university.
- Professional engineer (P.Eng.) licensed in the province of Ontario.
- Minimum five (5) years of progressive working experience in the field of electrical systems design, construction, Transit and / or Transportation system design and system integration
- Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, Electrical engineering modelling software such as ETAP, and Auto LUX / AGI32 lighting design software is preferred
- Well acquainted with transportation and transit related project activities.
- Excellent organization and planning skills document control and reporting
- Demonstrated initiative, drive, leadership, communication, & interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects within a fast paced environment.
