Position Overview :

We are seeking a highly skilled Architectural Technologist with a passion for commercial retail space planning and design.

This role requires a deep understanding of code compliance, space optimization, and client collaboration. You will be responsible for ensuring that all designs meet provincial and municipal regulations while reflecting the client’s vision.

Additionally, you will work closely with municipalities to secure approvals and maintain compliance throughout the design and construction process.

Key Responsibilities :

Space Planning & Design :

• Collaborate with clients to develop innovative, functional, and aesthetically pleasing space plans for commercial retail environments.
• Ensure that all designs align with the client’s brand and vision while considering optimal space utilization and customer flow.

Code Compliance :

• Conduct thorough reviews of local, provincial, and federal building codes, with a specific focus on BCIN requirements, to ensure all projects are fully compliant.
• Partner with municipalities to guarantee designs adhere to zoning laws, fire regulations, accessibility requirements, and other essential compliance standards.
• Communicate effectively with municipal bodies to streamline approval processes, secure necessary permits, and mitigate potential compliance issues before they arise.
• Lead code reviews and regulatory checks to ensure all aspects of the design process from concept to completion adhere to legal and safety standards.

Client Collaboration :

• Work closely with clients during the conceptual design phase to understand their needs, goals, and vision for the space.
• Present space planning options and design solutions that reflect the client’s operational and aesthetic objectives, ensuring alignment with the company’s core value of Personalization Creates Loyalty .

Full Drawing Sets :

• Develop comprehensive drawing sets including architectural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) plans, ensuring all are in accordance with the Building Code Identification Number (BCIN) standards.
• Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure that all designs are buildable and compliant with municipal and provincial standards.

Compliance and Licensing :

• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all relevant provincial and federal regulations regarding commercial space design.
• Ensure that all professional licensing is upheld and explore opportunities to gain design certifications in other provinces as part of our company’s vision for growth and adaptability.

Qualifications :

• BCIN Certification is required.
• 3+ years of experience in commercial space planning, with a focus on retail environments.
• Strong knowledge of building codes, zoning laws, and accessibility standards.
• Experience working directly with municipalities to secure permits and ensure compliance.
• Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, and other relevant design software.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present ideas clearly and work collaboratively with clients and internal teams.
• Desire to expand licensure across provinces, demonstrating a commitment to growth and adaptability.
