Overview
This position is primarily responsible for supporting all phases of the design and development of custom mechanical and electro-mechanical hardware for LB Foster’s friction management systems including concept, design, verification, validation, manufacture, and systems implementation. The individual is also responsible for working with the engineering team to ensure design solutions meet the project and customer requirements and specifications.
Responsibilities
- Support the development conceptual and detailed designs of custom mechanical and electro-mechanical systems for train-mounted applications
- Support design validation and verification using FEA modelling, prototyping, and field assessment
- Generate manufacturing drawings
- Conduct experiments, and perform data acquisition and analysis
- Support manufacturing and conduct QA
- Generate trial plans, reports, manuals, and other documents
- Participate in trials, installations, and tests of equipment in the field
Qualifications
Bachelor degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics engineering, or related disciplineEIT with EGBC or eligible for registration0 to 5 years of experience in mechanical and electro-mechanical designExperience with CAD modelling (Solidworks preferred). FEA experience an assetExperience with electro-mechanical systems an asset, including automation, control systems, and instrumentationStrong problem solving skills combined with sound engineering judgmentExcellent written and verbal communication skillsCan work independently and in a collaborative team environmentEIT certification (or eligibility for registration under EGBC)Other Requirements
