As the Recreation Operator (1) you have the opportunity to help with maintenance, minor repairs and operational readiness of all recreation facilities, facilities that fosters individual and community well-being through a variety of leisure/recreation/wellness services. Those facilities include Genesis Place, Ron Ebbesen Twin Arenas, Plainsmen Arena, and all future recreational facilities. You will help monitor water chemistry and refrigeration plant, perform minor ice maintenance and custodial duties. A Recreation Operator (1) offers frequent customer service to recreation staff as well as the user groups and public.
Primary accountabilities include:
• Perform tasks as assigned by the Recreation Coordinator, Team Leader or designate
• Monitors pool systems and water quality:
a. Help monitor water chemistry
b. Help monitor controllers
c. Assist in monitoring water level
• Maintain ice quality and operate resurfacer:
a. Ice resurfacing
b. Edging
c. Assist in ice measurements
d. Assist in weekly ice maintenance
e. Assist in Ice removal at end of season
• Act as a mentor/trainer for Arena Attendants
• Engage in quality control and work standards
• Prepare facility and areas of the facility for special programs, events, and services
• Assist with minor repairs during facility shutdowns
• Perform snow removal, de-ice including sanding and salting
• Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S), Alberta Health Standard and City of Airdrie Health & Safety practices

a. Arena glass
b. Showers
c. Spectator glass
d. Players benches
e. Changerooms
• A minimum age of 18 years is required
• Current First Aid and CPR certifications
• Level I Pool Operator within 1 year of hiring
• Arena 1 (Recreation Facility Personnel), within 1 year of hiring
• Some recreation facility operations and maintenance experience
• High energy level and enjoy working in a fast paced, challenging and ever-changing environment
• Strong attention to detail, problem solving and ability to work independently
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Exemplary customer service skills
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to quickly align with shifting priorities, work assignments and timelines

This is an evening and weekend position, some shifts involving late nights. Recreation Operators will be expected to commit to a minimum of one evening shift and one weekend every two weeks.

Candidates must be able to perform physically demanding tasks and will regularly be required to lift, bend and kneel. Operators will work in varying temperatures and environmental conditions.
Starting wage will reflect the current certification and experience level.
