Position : Registered Nurse

Department : Regional Specialized Mental Health – Dual Diagnosis – Birch / Maple Lodge

Birch & Maple Lodge is a specialized service that offers intervention to those living with dual diagnosis (moderate to profound developmental disability and mental health concerns). The primary goal of Birch Maple Lodge supports adults to optimize independence and develop the skills necessary to live successfully and productively in the community. We meet the needs of this specialized population through intensive, time‑limited assessment and intervention services based on best practices in dual diagnosis and intellectual disabilities. We provide a highly skilled multidisciplinary team who work with patients, families and community‑based services to alleviate any barriers to community living.

Qualifications

• Current Certificate of Registration ~ College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing required
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (HCP) Certificate is required (recent within the last twelve months)
• Gentle Persuasive approach (GPA) Certificate required
• Minimum (2-3 years) experience working effectively with individuals with developmental disabilities, dual diagnosis, and / or autism (within the last 2-3 years) required
• Knowledge of applicable legislation (i.e. Mental Health Act, PHIPA, QCIPA, etc.) required
• Class G license and driver’s abstract required
• Knowledge and experience in facilitating conflict resolution required
• Demonstrated knowledge of psychotropic medications, symptom management and health teaching required
• Knowledge and experience with providing specialized programming for individuals living with a dual diagnosis
• Knowledge of consent and capacity issues and legislation involving this population (e.g. Public Guardian Trustee, Substitute Decision Maker Act, Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act)
• Knowledge of Recovery Oriented Practice Supporting Patient Choice
• PIECES Certificate an asset
