Now hiring: Mathematics Teaching Intern Upper School

Employment Terms: Full-Time 2 year contract

Start date: August 2026

We are currently seeking a dynamic mathematics Teaching Intern (TI) who demonstrates a high degree of cultural competence. They will provide instructions and classroom support to a diverse range of students across the Upper School and meaningfully engage in the Colleges co-curricular program including athletic coaching as needed. They may also provide supply coverage to Upper School teachers. A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with teachers and students is essential particularly with students from a diverse range of ethno-cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

The UCC TI program is a wonderful opportunity for new teachers to develop experience in the classroom be mentored by outstanding seasoned faculty members and have phenomenal exposure to a top quality educational experience.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Teach two sections of designated coursework which may include General Learning Skills Mathematics or other subjects as assigned;

  • Engage in team teaching initiatives to provide a diverse and integrated learning experience for students;

  • Actively participate in the design review and implementation of innovative curriculum;

  • Provide regular instructional support in the Math Clinic during the school day and collaborate with the boarding community to offer dedicated Math Clinic hours for boarders;

  • Deliver tailored individualized support for targeted students to address specific learning gaps and academic goals;

  • Organize and facilitate a weekly After-School Math Homework Club to foster a supportive environment for peer learning and extra help;

  • Participate in faculty and department meetings assemblies and ongoing professional development opportunities;

  • Fulfill standard supervisory requirements including on-call substitute teaching and morning/lunchtime duties;

  • Actively participate in the broader life of the school including field trips graduation school dances and other community events as required.

Job Requirements

  • Completion of a bachelors degree in education or a related field;

  • Teaching certificate issued by the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) or enrollment in a recognized teacher education program preferred;

  • Experience in providing academic support and implementing accommodations is beneficial;

  • Ability to recognize individual learning styles and the characteristics of learners;

  • Displays humility and empathy and recognizes their ability to positively influence change;

  • Embraces the opportunity and responsibility to make a difference in their local and global communities;

  • Commitment to honesty justice fairness and equity;

  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with the Learning Resource Teacher classroom teachers and students;

  • Effective communication skills to provide academic support and accommodations to students;

  • Active listening skills to understand student needs and concerns
