TEMPORARY FULL TIME UNTIL APPROXIMATELY MARCH 31 2026

Under the direction of the Clinical Operations Manager respond to inquiries about mental health services from the general public prospective clients of CMHA other mental health services agencies family members and as well as from other health or social service agencies. Where indicated conduct comprehensive assessments with individuals referred or seeking services at CMHA-WECB. There is an expectation that this position will provide intervention to individuals via phone and face to face while connecting them to the most appropriate resource for ongoing support.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES :

Intake and Assessment duties :

  • providing intervention and short-term support to individuals experiencing a mental health issue (interventions may be via telephone or by personal contact).
  • providing quick response to situations that arise with individuals either on the phone or for walk in associated with the Coordinated Access program.
  • providing information on community resources to other employees associated with the Coordinated Access program when appropriate.
  • Conducting and completing evidenced based assessments for all individuals referred to and seeking services from CMHA-WECB. Liaising and communicating with referral sources is required.
  • linking individuals with mental health needs to immediate resources.
  • exploring and linking individuals to alternate community resources when needed.
  • communicating and coordinating relevant information with Agency staff.
  • screening for serious mental illness and assessing appropriateness for service.
  • assisting individuals in prioritizing needs / areas of consideration and to develop short-term plans to address these priorities.
  • providing brief services / support to clients deemed high risk until entry into the appropriate program within CMHA
  • link clients to resources which will assist the individual in securing housing
  • facilitating early linkage with community support worker or other agencies.
  • liaising with family / significant others and natural supports to facilitate the members links within the community.
  • consulting with a Manager or designate as outlined in program policies and procedures or where it is reasonable to assume that management consultation is required on matters pertaining to quality assurance in direct service.
  • Will provide mental health assessment and access functions at various locations within Windsor and Essex County
  • compiling statistical reports and other records of program activities as requested.

Participates in public education services.

  • Participating in the delivery of a variety of educational presentations dealing with mental health mental illness and Branch services as requested by Manager.
  • Evaluating effectiveness of educational sessions.
  • Developing resource materials for educational presentations and groups.
  • Evaluating effectiveness of activities and sessions.
  • Represents the agency with groups concerned with client population and serves on various community committees on behalf of the Branch.

    Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the Mental Health Act and related legislation as well as the programs and services of local social agencies government departments institutions and other groups concerned with the client population.

    Provides supervision to agency volunteers and students as requested.

  • Providing regular supervision advice and support to volunteers and student placements in program and service area.
  • Evaluating performance of volunteers and students in the program area.
  • Recording volunteer and student activities including monthly hours mileage and other expenses.
  • Substitutes for and assists other agency staff where skills are applicable.

  • Providing additional support to staff within the Mental Health Services unit as required.
  • Providing after hour coverage for clients of the program following policies and procedures for such.

    EDUCATION & SKILLS :

  • Requires knowledge and skill acquired through completion of University degree as deemed relevant by the employer (i.e. BSW BScN).
  • Registered member in good standing of a professional college deemed relevant by the employer such as the College of Nurses (preferably with Canadian Certification in Psychiatric / Mental Health Nursing) or the College of Social Workers in good standing is required.
  • Two (2) years recent relevant clinical work in the judgment of the employer with vulnerable individuals with serious mental illnesses.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of mental illness and treatments; bio-psychosocial rehabilitation; comprehensive knowledge and skill in the completion of mental health assessments using evidenced based assessment tools is required.
  • Up to date knowledge of relevant mental health policy and legislation including the Mental Health Act; knowledge of community resources.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and various Microsoft software applications.
  • A valid Ontario Drivers License with access to a reliable vehicle and proof of current insurance and licensing are required for this position.
  • Hours of Work : Thirty-Five (35) hour work week. Flexible hours are required to meet client and service needs. The agencys regular hours of operation are Monday to Friday 8 : 30am to 4 : 30pm.

    Salary range : Grade 9 $37.84 $44.81 per hour

    Per 2022-2026 Collective Agreement
