Job Description
AECOM is actively seeking a Geotechnical Engineering Specialist with expertise in geotechnical earthquake engineering, probabilistic seismic hazard analysis, liquefaction analysis, and dynamic analysis. The role requires extensive experience in the design and construction of shallow and deep foundations, retaining structures, embankments, railways, highways, airports, excavation support systems, tunnels, trenchless and ground improvement methods (e.g., stone columns, soil mixing). The successful candidate will work on major transportation, water resources, marine, civil infrastructure and building projects, play a key role in growing our geotechnical practice in Canada, and will hold a full-time position.
Responsibilities
- Work with diverse teams of engineers, designers and drafters from conceptual design through preliminary and final design.
- Manage projects, ensuring completion on schedule and within financial performance.
- Resolve complex geotechnical issues.
- Write, compile, and review geotechnical reports and proposals for major projects.
- Prepare and present technical papers and contribute to advancement of earth science in relevant specializations.
- Maintain quality throughout projects and implement improvements when appropriate.
- Prepare project summary reports.
- Resolve claims related to deferring ground conditions, encouraging growth and improving general knowledge within the company.
- Develop and sustain long-lasting business relationships with clients.
- Travel within Canada as required.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering.4 years of relevant experience in geotechnical, geological, and geotechnical earthquake engineering.Eligible for P. Eng. registration in Canada within a year.Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering from a CEAB-accredited institution.8+ years of progressive experience in geotechnical engineering on complex multidisciplinary projects.Familiarity with finite element theory for soil and rock and advanced geotechnics related to real soil behavior.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Proactive problem-solving skills.Ability to maintain organization in a changing environment.Initiative, responsibility, and flexibility.Experience with intrusive and non-intrusive field investigations, laboratory testing and material characterization.Experience with conceptual, feasibility, preliminary, detailed design, construction, and site closure.Field investigation techniques such as CPT, SPT, PMT, DMT and their application in static and seismic design.Ability to evaluate seismic slope stability, lateral spreading displacement and liquefaction-induced settlements.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.Ability to work independently and in a team environment.Additional Information & Benefits
