Under the direction of the Recreation Coordinator (and Manager of Business and Community Services), the Summer Sportz Coach is responsible for the planning and delivery of day-to-day sport programming for children in a group setting.
This person is also responsible for the general safety and development, growth, and skill achievement of the participants in their group.
The incumbent will provide high quality sport instruction, facilitate program activities for participants that focus on authentic and enjoyable sport experience.
Duties & Responsibilities

- Responsible for knowing, understanding, and executing all camp policies and emergency procedures associated with the camp.
- Assist Camp Programmer in orienting all campers to camp rules and expectations.
- Lead and motivate campers towards learning and applying new knowledge.
- Responsible for supervising their group of campers to and from daily activities, ensuring that all campers are always accounted for.
- Responsible for check-in and check-out camp procedures.
- Provide campers with progress reports based on their development throughout the week.
- Prepare and deliver lesson plans according to the required curriculum.
- Lead students through activities that will promote the growth of their physical, mental, and social development.
- Teaching students using a variety of different techniques including discussions, visual demonstrations, guided discovery.
- Be a leader in parent communication and address parent concerns in a timely manner, seek assistance from Camp programmer as required.
- Nurture and develop all young athlete’s potential skills and abilities and identify each child's individual learning needs.
- Continuously demonstrate responsible, ethical, and professional conduct
- Ensure that the campsite is kept clean, organized, and free of litter.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
What you need to Succeed....
- Pursuing an education and career in Recreation and Leisure, Sport Management, Child and Youth Studies, Early Childhood Education, or another similar field.
- Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C Certificate.
- NCCP Coaching Certification. Minimum requirement : NCCP Community Initiation
- Valid High Five : Principles of Healthy Childhood Development Certification.
- Clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check (as per the City’s Police Background Check procedure).
- Experience in Pickleball, Beach Volleyball, Basketball or Tennis is considered an asset.
- Strong customer service, planning, organizational, and written and oral communication skills.
- Experience working with community groups youth groups is considered an asset.
Salary and Benefit Information
Salary : $18.85- $19.38 (2024 rate) plus OMERS pension is available
