Student Research Assistant
Position Summary
Student Research Assistants are sought to assist university-based researchers and their media partners in developing research-based journalism investigations and feature stories for broadcast and print.
We seek enterprising researchers who have a keen interest in investigative journalism, data journalism and solutions journalism.
Duties will include :
- Examination of Canadian government legislation and documents;
- Submitting and tracking FOI requests;
- Database analysis;
- Outreach to community members;
- Writing story drafts; and
- Assisting the research needs and journalism work of the project.
- Mentorship, skills development opportunities, and appropriate research and / or byline credit for project publications provided.
Position Requirements
- Current or graduating student at an accredited post-secondary Canadian journalism and / or communications program.
- Knowledge of Indigenous issues and cultural contexts is a strong asset.
- Some travel may be required.
- Remote work options are available, but students must be based in Canada and eligible to work in Canada.
- Successful applicants may potentially integrate this position with a for-credit internship from your home institution, contingent on agreement between the research lead and your program head.
