CAD Technician/Project Coordinator

Job Description

Our client is a high-end custom metal studio based in Toronto, working with leading interior designers, architects, builders, and homeowners. They specialize in architectural metal, custom hardware, railings, enclosures, and bespoke fabricated details for finished residential and commercial spaces.

They are hiring a senior-level, highly capable individual to replace a key team member. This is not an entry-level role and is not suitable for recent graduates or junior candidates.

This role sits at the intersection of design, fabrication, coordination, and installation. You will be trusted to operate independently and make informed decisions that directly impact project success.

WHAT THIS ROLE IS

This is a thinking role. A large portion of the job involves being given an inspiration image, completing a site measure, and translating that into clear, buildable shop drawings in Fusion , with a deep understanding of how the piece will actually be fabricated, finished, delivered, and installed.

You will also act as a key coordination point between our client, suppliers, trades, and other clients.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complete accurate site measures and fully understand project scope and constraints
  • Produce shop drawings in Fusion that reflect real-world fabrication and installation
  • Design with standard metal material sizes and fabrication processes in mind
  • Visualize and plan how assemblies go together efficiently and cleanly
  • Coordinate directly with laser cutters, mills, and external fabricators, including:
  • Supplying cut files and drawings
  • Communicating tolerances, materials, and finishes
  • Following up to ensure accuracy
  • Coordinate installs with GCs, designers, homeowners, and suppliers
  • Manage install timelines, site readiness, and sequencing
  • Communicate clearly about delays, issues, and solutions
  • Lead or assist with installations and solve problems on site when conditions aren’t perfect

Requirements

MUST-HAVE REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience in architectural metal, high-end millwork, or custom construction / installation work
  • (This may include railings, glazing, facades, custom interiors, or comparable high-detail built work.)
  • Strong proficiency in Fusion for producing shop drawings
  • This role is drawing-heavy and requires confident, independent CAD ability.
  • Deep understanding of fabrication and assembly, including:
  • Standard metal material sizes and profiles
  • How mills, shears, brakes, and other shop equipment influence design decisions
  • Designing parts to be fabricated efficiently and accurately
  • Ability to think through tolerances, sequencing, connections, transport, and installation while drawing
  • Proven experience coordinating directly with fabricators, suppliers, and trades
  • A clear eye for luxury design, proportion, and detail
  • Proven experience with site measures and installation coordination
  • Very strong spoken and written English
  • Clear communication is essential for client-facing coordination and technical discussions.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to GTA job sites

BONUS SKILLS (NOT REQUIRED, BUT A STRONG PLUS)

  • Welding experience (TIG and/or MIG)
  • Custom millwork background
  • Experience producing cut files or working closely with CNC / laser operations
  • Background in high-end residential or commercial interiors

HOW TO APPLY

  • A brief summary of your relevant experience
  • Examples of the types of projects you’ve worked on
