Specialist Learning Disability Speech Therapist

Specialise in adult learning disability care through speech and language therapy, dysphagia assessment, and communication support within the Intensive Support Team.

This Specialist Speech and Language Therapist provides assessment, diagnosis, and intervention for adults with learning disabilities. The work covers communication, eating, drinking, swallowing, and complex communication needs. You will manage a specialist caseload, contribute to multidisciplinary planning, and support The Hollies Learning Disability Assessment and Treatment Service.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess, diagnose, and treat specialist communication and swallowing needs
• Manage and prioritise an Intensive Support Team caseload
• Provide sessional input to The Hollies service
• Develop safe eating, drinking, and risk management recommendations
• Advise families, carers, colleagues, and providers

Requirements:

• Professional competency in dysphagia assessment and intervention
• Ability to use clinical reasoning and risk assessment
• Experience supporting complex communication needs
• Knowledge of Total Communication and augmentative communication
• Ability to work autonomously within professional boundaries
