  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, technical specifications, and dimensional tolerances;
  • Develop, interpret, modify, and optimize CNC programs using machine controls and programming software;
  • Determine appropriate machining sequences, tooling, cutting speeds, and feed rates based on material and production requirements;
  • Set up and align large workpieces, fixtures, and tooling to achieve precise positioning and machining accuracy;
  • Use precision measuring instruments to inspect components and verify dimensional accuracy, tolerances, and surface finishes;
  • Monitor machining processes, troubleshoot technical issues, and make adjustments to maintain quality standards and production efficiency;
  • Perform routine machine inspections and preventative maintenance;
  • Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, fabricators, and other machinists to resolve production challenges and improve machining processes;
  • Maintain accurate production records, inspection results, and quality documentation; and
  • Support apprentices and junior machinists by sharing technical knowledge and safe work practices.

Requirements

  • A minimum of three years of relevant machining experience, including CNC setup, operation, and precision metal machining;
  • Practical knowledge of horizontal boring operations, including workpiece setup, alignment, boring techniques, and dimensional control;
  • Experience operating horizontal boring machines is strongly preferred;
  • Completion of secondary school, with a machinist apprenticeship or recognized machining qualification considered an asset;
  • Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings, machining symbols, geometric tolerances, and technical specifications;
  • Knowledge of CNC programming, including G-code and M-code, and the ability to make program adjustments;
  • Familiarity with CAM programming software, such as Mastercam or equivalent;
  • Experience with multi-axis machining, including four-axis or five-axis operations, is an asset;
  • A strong understanding of cutting tools, machining parameters, and production methods;
  • Experience machining large industrial components, heavy fabricated assemblies, or complex metal parts is an asset;
  • Proficiency with precision measurement tools and the ability to troubleshoot machining and alignment issues; and
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality and workplace safety.

Benefits

The position offers a wage of $40 per hour, permanent full-time employment at 40 hours per week, and opportunities for overtime based on production demands. The successful candidate must be available to work day, evening, night, and weekend shifts as required. This is an on-site role at Waycon’s Penticton facility, offering the opportunity to contribute to complex industrial manufacturing projects alongside an experienced team.

If you are an experienced CNC Machinist with strong horizontal boring and precision machining skills, this is an opportunity to bring your expertise to an established manufacturer producing custom industrial equipment and components for clients across North America.
