Job Summary
Job Summary
The Research Assistant will support participant recruitment for the Queen’s University Stronger at Home Hip Fracture Study, a parallel-group, single-blind randomized controlled trial evaluating a 14-week, patient-centred, at-home physiotherapy program for older adults recovering from hip fracture. Working in close coordination with hospital staff and the research team, the RA will identify and approach potentially eligible patients, obtain informed consent, complete baseline assessments, randomize participants, and maintain accurate recruitment and study-tracking records. Training will be provided for the selected candidate.
About the Study
The Stronger at Home study aims to evaluate whether a patient-centred, home-based physiotherapy program can help community-dwelling older adults recover faster and improve functional outcomes after hip fracture. Participants will receive the 14-week intervention and be followed for up to 12 months after hospital discharge.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
• The RA will screen and identify potential patient participants meeting the study’s Inclusion and Exclusion criteria on the Hospital’s electronic health record system (LUMEO) in close coordination with the Hospital staff.
• With the care staff’s support, the RA will approach these potential patient participants, introduce the study to them, and keep the staff informed of the progress at each step.
• For patients willing to participate in the study, the RA will obtain informed consent, conduct baseline assessments, randomize them to study groups, and inform their group allocation to the Hospital staff and relevant study team members.
• The RA will regularly communicate with the research team regarding potential participants, study progress, and acting as a liaison between the research team and the Hospital staff.
Other Details
• Up to 10 hours of work every two weeks.
• On-site work at Brockville General Hospital is required; this is not a remote position. Training will be provided for the selected candidate.
• Expected start date: late fall 2026, negotiable.
• The study is expected to remain active for approximately 2–3 more years.
Requirements and Assets
• Post-secondary education in a health-related, life-science, or research-related field.
• Previous participant-recruitment or clinical-research experience is a strong asset. Experience using hospital electronic health-record systems is an asset; experience with LUMEO is particularly valuable.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with older adults, patients, caregivers, hospital staff, and research-team members.
• Ability to work carefully with confidential health information and follow study, hospital, privacy, and research procedures.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining regular communication with the research team.
• A valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a vehicle are assets.
