Job Posting: Cook Position Title: Cook Reports To: Hospitality Manager or Site Manager Location: Salmon Arm, British Columbia Rate: 24.50/ hr Shift info: 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on the following dates: October 15 October 16 October 17 October 18 October 19 October 21 October 23 October 24 October 26 October 27 Position Overview We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Cook to join our team. In this role, you will safely prepare, cook, and bake quality food for residents, staff, and visitors in according with menus, standardized recipes, and specialized dietary guidelines. You will maintain a clean, sanitized, and safe kitchen environment while fostering a warm, respectful atmosphere for our community. Key Responsibilities Food Preparation & Service Prepare, cook, and bake meals for residents, staff, and visitors following standardized recipes, production sheets, therapeutic diet plans, and special request lists. Review daily menus to confirm ingredient availability and arrange approved temporary substitutions when necessary. Prepare items for cafeteria service and catering events, ensuring proper preparation and timely delivery. Assist the Dietitian with specific recipe needs, including ensuring vegetarian and therapeutic options are available. Kitchen Operations & Safety Open the main kitchen in the morning and review the communication book and daily staff schedule for updates or staffing changes. Monitor, record, and log daily refrigerator, freezer, steam table, and food temperatures, promptly reporting any equipment issues or safety concerns to maintenance/supervisors. Safely pull and temper meats according to safe food handling standards. Properly label, store, and maintain 72-hour food samples and leftovers according to HACCP standards. Assist with ordering, receiving, and properly storing fresh and frozen groceries from approved suppliers. Clean, sanitize, and maintain all kitchen equipment, work surfaces, and facilities in compliance with infection control and hygiene standards. Teamwork & Resident Care Provide orientation and guidance to newly hired food services staff. Interact with residents, staff, and guests with compassion, active listening, respect, and dignity. Demonstrate flexibility in daily routines to accommodate resident needs and support an environment that nurtures spirituality. Participate in staff education, training programs, and safety initiatives in alignment with organization standards. Qualifications Education & Certifications BC Candidates: Valid Food Safe 1 Certificate (issued post-July 29, 2013) or recognized equivalent. Alberta Candidates: Valid Alberta Food Safety Certificate or recognized equivalent. Work Experience 2 to 3 years of experience in institutional cooking. Demonstrated experience working with elderly populations or in senior care settings. Skills & Core Competencies Strong verbal and written English communication skills. Basic computer literacy, including proficiency with email and internet navigation. Excellent interpersonal, active listening, and conflict-resolution skills. High level of dependability, punctuality, and time management. Commitment to confidentiality, safety regulations, and infection control standards.
