Senior Director, Patent Analysis & Reverse Engineering

Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our expanding team as a Senior Director in our Patent Analysis and Reverse Engineering division. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on involvement in client relationships, project management, and technical analysis. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding or quick ability to grasp our work, with a significant background in patent law and operational expertise. Most of our work involves semiconductors, circuits, signal analysis, wireless, and electronics. The ideal candidate will also have exposure to understanding patent claims and/or project management.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage reverse engineering investigations based on the requirements dictated by a patent claims or other IP-related criteria.
• Deliver evidence of use, also known as claim charts, to support the findings and conclusions of the investigations.
• Work with internal and external personnel to deliver timely results to a client.
• Work with internal and external laboratories to obtain data for the investigations.
• Handle both low-level and executive-level work on the same account.
• Act as a resource for clients on methods to approach investigating their patents.
• Ability to review lists of patents to determine likelihood of infringement.
• Present clearly and effectively during meetings with C-suite, lawyers, and business owners.
• Collaborate closely with senior management and client stakeholders to achieve project goals.
• Identify business development opportunities and develop meaningful personal and business relationships.
• Manage deadlines and deliverables across multiple projects and industries with varying levels of involvement.
• Drive process improvements and operational excellence across projects.
• Maintain a strong focus on project timelines, deliverables, and budget management.
• Uphold the highest ethical standards and maintain credibility in all interactions.
  

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related hard science discipline.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in patent analysis, reverse engineering, or a related field.
• Patent experience required.
• Highly organized with strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
• Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to clearly communicate complex concepts.
• Proven problem-solving abilities and a solutions-oriented mindset.
• Ability to adapt quickly, manage competing priorities, and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to independently develop and deliver high-quality work product with limited oversight.
• Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and in leadership capacities as needed.
• With some mentorship, expect to manage a project from start to finish: starting with creating financial budgets, internal and external resource management, and finally creating an output according to a client’s requirements.
• Self-motivated with a high degree of initiative, energy, and accountability.
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with intellectual property, focused on reverse engineering or product teardowns.
• Patent Agent registration or experience interpreting and analyzing patent claims.
• Project management experience.
• Demonstrated leadership experience, including managing and mentoring teams.
• Experience managing complex projects and delivering high-quality results.
• Strong interpersonal, influencing, and negotiation skills.

Physical and Mental Job Qualifications:

• Must be able to sit for long period of time
• Must be flexible to work outside of the 8:30am – 5:30pm business hours if needed.

A reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role is $130,000 - $200,000 CAD. Any offered salary range is based on a wide array of factors including but not limited to skillset, experience, training, location, scope of role, management responsibility, etc.
