Director of Business Decision Support and Financial Performance

Our client is an established integrated lifecycle management company and looking for a Director of Business Decision Support and Financial Performance to join their team. The Director will lead the Business Decision Support & Financial Performance function, providing financial reporting, forecasting, variance analysis, benchmarking, and insights to drive better business decisions and resource allocation. Reporting to the CFO, they will build and lead a high-performing Business Analyst team supporting budgets, forecasts, P&Ls, and performance metrics across the business. The role is highly cross-functional, partnering with Operations and leaders across PMO, Purchasing, IT, and Finance to improve processes, systems, and overall business performance.

• Assisting in project planning, controls, and monitoring.
• Developing and maintaining models related to cost performance.
• Reviewing cost control and financial reporting procedures and recommend changes or improvements as necessary.
• Assisting in the preparation of department budget and forecasting, gathering departmental data, assessing the validity, and reporting into appropriate formats.
• Responsible for the annual and quarterly target setting process.
• Responsible for financial reporting of the department, including multi-entities within the business area.
• Providing advice, guidance, recommendations and assistance to line staff and management in assessing projects, reporting, cost benefit analysis, and cost allocation.

Reporting:

• Ensure alignment of Pillar based monthly management reporting with key highlights and analysis.
• Perform Margins, P&L and Balance Sheet analysis and reviews together with Pillar leads and CFO.
• Lead and co-ordinate the monthly variance analysis of financial results and comparisons to annual budgets, forecasts and prior year, along with explanations of key drivers.
• Build the narrative that explains the Operational results and plans to the Executive Management team.
• Financial tools and dashboard development to support operations.
• Support Central Finance team with external reporting requirements and variance explanations.
• Lead Cashflow reporting requirements (Treasury) by consolidating inputs from multiple sources (i.e. Tax, AP/AR, etc.).
• Backup and support CFO for internal and external reporting requirements.

Business Decision and FP&A Support:

• Leads analysis of financial information to support effective business decisions.
• Manage and support the Business Analysis team, ensuring business planning and financial forecasting process and the annual budgeting process is consistent across the team and all Finance and Operations deadlines are met.
• Support the refinement of the monthly forecasting process, working with the Central Finance teams.
• Analyze and interpret operating and financial results to identify trends and activities driving those results and make recommendations on potential changes, both operational and financial in nature, to improve performance.
• Provide competitive benchmarking and optimization of company resources including resource allocation decision support.
• Adhoc analysis as needed.

Central Finance and Parent Company Support

• Promote process improvements that focus on elimination of complex manual processes.
• Support finance related projects, e.g., SAP migration, internal and external audit requests, tax strategy planning, transfer pricing, etc.
• Cash management planning, providing accrued, deferred revenue forecasts, accounts receivable collection timing as well as accounts payable forecasting in collaboration with Central finance teams.
• Ensure adherence and consistency with capital expenditure business case justification and analysis to support investment decisions.
• Work closely with counterparts at parent company to establish and promote shared best practices.

What You Need to Succeed

• An undergraduate degree/diploma in the appropriate field (business administration, accounting, mathematics) or equivalent.
• Requires a CPA designation.
• 10+ years related experience in business analysis/project analysis.
• Advanced Excel, PowerPoint, and Office365 skills.
• Experience with SharePoint an asset.
• Excellent interpersonal and communications skills and the willingness and ability to lead change in the finance function.
• Detailed and focused with strong analytical skills, ability to prepare financial reports for senior leadership team.
• Strong organizational and time management skills with a sense of urgency and accountability.
• Good understanding of HU (Human Performance) tools to develop an error free culture, based on continuous improvement and self-checking.
• Extensive ERP knowledge and experience, with SAP preferred.
• Good familiarity with utility and OEM project/industry/technology and understanding of aspects of work programs and projects associated with cost engineering, work planning and project performance analysis.
• Demonstrated ability to lead a team of individuals with diverse skill sets aligning them to exceed organizational goals.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and high commitment to quality and delivering on client commitments, including experience in leading complex projects to successful conclusions.
• Strong team building, decision-making, mentorship, and people management skills.
