The successful candidate will help foster a safe, respectful, and high-performing workplace while ensuring consistent application of HR policies, practices, and employment legislation. This role is ideal for a collaborative HR professional who thrives in a fast-paced, operational environment and is comfortable supporting geographically dispersed teams.

Job Responsibilities

  • Coach leaders on employee relations, performance management, and corrective action.
  • Support employee engagement, retention, and workplace culture initiatives.

Workforce Planning & Talent Management

  • Partner with operational leaders and recruitment teams to support staffing plans and hiring needs.
  • Support onboarding, workforce mobilization, redeployment, and emergency staffing requirements.
  • Monitor workforce trends and recommend strategies to improve retention and workforce stability.
  • Support leadership development, succession planning, and employee growth initiatives.

Employee Lifecycle & HR Operations

  • Provide support throughout the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, performance management, promotions, transfers, leaves, accommodations, and offboarding.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and provincial employment legislation.
  • Maintain accurate employee records, documentation, and HR data.
  • Support policy implementation, audits, reporting, and HR process improvements.

Compensation, Benefits & Analytics

  • Support compensation reviews, wage analysis, and market benchmarking.
  • Provide guidance on compensation administration and workforce competitiveness.
  • Monitor key workforce metrics, including turnover, vacancies, absenteeism, and retention.
  • Provide HR reporting and workforce insights to operational leaders.

Change Management & Operational Support

  • Support organizational changes, restructures, mobilizations, acquisitions, and other business transitions.
  • Develop and deliver employee and leadership communications related to change initiatives.
  • Provide HR support during operational emergencies and critical business events.
  • Travel to sites as required to support leaders, employees, investigations, and operational needs.

Travel Requirements

  • Regular travel to remote sites throughout Western Canada is required.
  • Travel is generally expected to be 30-40% but may increase based on business needs, mobilizations, investigations, or other operational priorities.
  • Site visits are essential to build relationships, support leaders and employees, and maintain a strong HR presence.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years of progressive HR experience.
  • Strong employee and labour relations experience, including investigations, discipline, grievance management, and unionized environments.
  • Experience supporting multi-site, hospitality, remote workforce, camp, resource, or operational environments is preferred.
  • Experience with workforce planning, organizational change, disability management, accommodation, and return-to-work programs.
  • Experience in compensation analysis, salary administration, and HR reporting.
  • CPHR designation (or progress toward designation) is considered an asset.
  • Bilingualism in English and French is considered an asset.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of Canadian employment and labour legislation.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Sound judgment, discretion, and ability to manage confidential information.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
