Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia is currently searching for an Enforcement Assistant to join our team in Burnaby on a contract until the end of June 2027. The Enforcement Assistant works under the supervision of the Legal Counsel, Enforcement Manager ("LCEM") to assist the team responsible for enforcing unauthorized practice and misuse of title prohibitions in the Professional Governance Act .

Their work will involve taking conduct of, and resolving, low and medium risk enforcement files, investigating concerns, drafting cease and desist correspondence from precedents/templates, and engaging with targets to secure compliance.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING Taking conduct of and resolving low and medium risk enforcement files using strong written and oral (phone) advocacy.

Reviewing complaints in detail, analyzing fact patterns, gathering initial information and evidence as required, and conducting email and telephone communications with complainants and enforcement targets.

When directed by the LCEM as the need arises, supporting the enforcement team, including through participation in working groups, supporting proactive enforcement campaigns, conducting online research, using internal databases, cross referencing, using other data analysis techniques, and assisting with statistics, trends, and KPI reporting as required. Other duties as assigned by the LCEM and members of the departmental leadership team.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE 2-5 years of experience working in a law firm, legal department, professional regulatory body, or equivalent.

Education in legal or paralegal studies is an asset.

Experience handling incoming complaints or correspondence from third-parties in a professional or customer service environment.

Excellent writing skills, including the ability to independently prepare written correspondence that is consistently polished, professional, formal, and free of grammatical errors or colloquialisms.

Experience in interpreting and applying legislation.

Excellent attention to detail and ability to independently review, analyze, and keep track of a high volume of materials and matters.

Ability to uphold confidentiality and manage sensitive situations.

This role offers a competitive compensation and benefits program including an annual salary within our hiring range of $55,500 to $62,000 (pro-rated based on the length of contract).

For full-time contract employees on this length of contract, we offer: 8% additional pay in lieu of benefits.

  • 10 vacation days per annum (pro-rated based on the length of contract). A flex day program offering additional paid days off (usually alternating Fridays) as a result of a compressed work week. A hybrid work model with an assigned schedule confirming days worked remotely and days worked in-office.

This role will be required to work in-office a minimum of 2 days per week during regular business operations. The required tools, equipment, and technology for employees to work remotely are provided. Free parking at the office, or a transit reimbursement offered to employees who take transit to work; we are centrally located near bus and Skytrain stops.
