Accountant

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking an Accountant on behalf of our client for a 2-month contract with the possibility of extension. This position will support day-to-day transmission accounting activities, including supplier invoice validation, cost reporting, forecasting, month-end accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting.

The ideal candidate will bring at least five years of accounting or financial analysis experience and be comfortable investigating discrepancies, working with high volumes of financial data, and seeing issues through to resolution. This role will also support accounting-related system projects, including documenting business requirements and testing system changes.

Location: Calgary, AB

Job Type: 2-month contract with possibility of extension

Schedule: 40 hours per week; hybrid with Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in office and Monday and Friday remote option

Responsibilities

• Validate monthly supplier invoices against contract terms and financial model outputs.

• Investigate invoice discrepancies and work with internal and external parties to resolve issues.

• Prepare monthly cost reporting and analysis to support supplier payments and accounting processes.

• Assist with quarterly revenue and cost forecasts and maintain forecasting models.

• Process and analyze production-month data related to transmission revenues and costs.

• Complete month-end activities including accruals, balance sheet reconciliations, transmission invoicing and settlement, and related financial reporting.

• Support projects involving accounting and transmission settlement systems and applications.

• Identify business needs that may require system changes.

• Document and communicate business requirements to IT.

• Assist with testing and validating system changes.

• Work with internal teams to ensure transmission settlement aligns with contract expectations.

• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls.

• Support special projects and other general accounting activities as required.

Qualifications

Must-Haves

• 5+ years of related experience as an Accountant or Financial Analyst, including independent work requiring judgment in dynamic or non-routine situations.

• Professional CPA designation, actively pursuing a CPA designation, or relevant work experience in lieu of an accounting designation.

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including experience manipulating and analyzing high volumes of data using advanced Excel functions.

• Experience with accounting activities such as accruals, reconciliations, invoicing, financial reporting, cost analysis, or forecasting.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate issues through to resolution.

• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work independently while also contributing as part of a team.

• Strong time management and workload prioritization skills with the ability to meet deadlines autonomously.

• Ability to learn and work with new systems and software.

• Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and changing environment.

• Positive, service-driven approach with a willingness to continuously learn.

Nice-to-Haves

• Previous experience communicating or documenting business requirements for IT system changes.

• Experience assisting with testing and validation of system changes.

• Working knowledge of Workday Financials.
