Description de poste

Jump Recruitment, on behalf of our client, the Association of Seafood Producers is currently seeking a Market Economics Research Analyst to join their team. This is a one-year position, with the potential for a longer-term opportunity following a review.

This role involves navigating the Fishing Industry Collective Bargaining Act (FICBA) and the Master Collective Agreement between the Association and the Fish, Food and Allied Workers-Unifor Union (FFAW-Unifor) to support the negotiation of raw material prices and conditions of sale with the FFAW, the union representing fish harvesters.

ABOUT THE ASSOCIATION OF SEAFOOD PRODUCERS:

The Association of Seafood Producers (ASP) is a not-for-profit industry trade association representing seafood processors across Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Association was founded in November 2003 as the province’s leading voice for seafood processors and legislated industry representative for all collective bargaining. Over the years, we’ve built strong, collaborative relationships with all levels of government and industry. These partnerships have been built on mutual respect, shared goals, and a commitment to the long-term success of our shared natural resources.

We’re more than a voice. We walk the walk, working collaboratively to strengthen the future of Newfoundland and Labrador’s seafood industry – through sound public policy, sustainable practices, and responsible resource management. Together with our members, we’re building a resilient, forward-looking seafood sector – one that supports good jobs, strong communities, and sustainable fisheries for generations to come.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

In this highly confidential role, you will support NL seafood producers and will routinely access, analyze, and manage proprietary business information, collective bargaining strategies, market intelligence, pricing data, operational metrics, and commercially sensitive information provided by ASP member companies. Maintaining strict confidentiality and exercising sound professional judgment are essential requirements of this role. The incumbent will be required to sign a confidentiality and non-disclosure agreement and adhere to all ASP data management and privacy protocols.

Your key responsibilities will be:

Market Analysis:

  • Track seafood pricing, wholesale/retail buying habits, import/export trade data, and global market trends, analyzing international market data, currency trends, and production yields to justify, determine, and set competitive prices.

Economic Forecasting:

  • Research mathematical and bio-economic models that forecast future seafood supply, demand, and inventory and pricing models.

Policy & Regulatory Assessment:

  • Evaluate the financial and socioeconomic impacts of processing license management, fisheries management, conservation measures, and international trade regulatory changes and policies on processors, plant workers and coastal communities.

Reporting:

  • Translate complex economic datasets into simplistic documentation that can be utilized as part of Standing Fish Pricing Panel submissions; support policy papers, and presentations for industry or government policymakers.

Confidential Information Management:

  • Collect, maintain, analyze, and safeguard highly sensitive commercial, financial, pricing, production, and market data obtained from ASP member companies and collective bargaining processes. Ensure all information is handled in accordance with ASP confidentiality policies and data security requirements.

WHAT YOU BRING:

  • Education: A bachelor’s or master’s degree in economics, Resource Management, Statistics, or Business.
  • Industry Knowledge: Understanding of commercial fishing, marine resource policies, and global seafood supply chains.
  • Experience: Experience working with proprietary datasets, strategic business information, labour negotiations, or confidential economic analysis would be considered a strong asset.
  • Analytical Skills: Proficiency in statistical and econometric databases, and software (Advanced Excel, Expana, etc.)
  • Communication Skills: High proficiency in both oral and written communication, must be able to translate complex economic datasets into simplistic documentation used as part of collective bargaining submissions; to support policy papers, and presentations for industry or government policymakers
  • Professional Integrity and Confidentiality: Demonstrated ability to manage highly confidential and commercially sensitive information with discretion.

WHAT WE OFFER:

  • A competitive salary to commiserate with experience.
  • A flexible, supportive, and collaborative work environment.

If you’re looking to be a part of building a resilient, forward-looking seafood sector – one that supports good jobs, strong communities, and sustainable fisheries for generations to come, this opportunity is for you!
