Job Summary:

The Web Specialist - Intermediate is responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing enterprise websites, including public-facing and internal intranet sites. This role involves collaborating with stakeholders and project teams to implement user-centric WordPress websites, ensuring accessibility, usability, and compliance with government standards. The specialist will create custom web components, graphics, and templates, and provide documentation and training to support ongoing website maintenance.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop website components and custom templates based on UX/UI design specifications.
  • Create website graphics and navigational elements.
  • Research and integrate web plugins to meet design requirements.
  • Implement websites on WordPress CMS in production and staging environments.
  • Write custom code using PHP, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS to fulfill design needs.
  • Ensure all web content meets accessibility and usability standards across multiple devices.
  • Migrate existing web content to new platforms.
  • Document best practices, style guides, and maintenance processes for internal teams.
  • Train IT staff and business users on website maintenance tasks.
  • Review and ensure websites comply with Government of Ontario standards.

Required Skills & Certifications:

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in analysis, development, design, testing, and implementation of enterprise websites.
  • Proficiency in standard web programming environments: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, PHP, and JavaScript frameworks (NodeJS, React, Vue, Angular).
  • Experience with open source technologies: Linux, WordPress, WordPress Plugins, Drupal, Solr, Elasticsearch, Git, Apache.
  • Strong knowledge of accessibility principles and WCAG 2.1 Level AA (or above) standards.
  • Experience in interface design, implementation, and testing for multi-language and multi-audience websites.
  • Familiarity with responsive web design techniques and cross-device compatibility.
  • Understanding of Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA) and related regulations.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

  • Experience with Azure Web Services including WordPress as a Service and database as a service.
  • Familiarity with LAMP stack, Windows Server platforms, IIS, and web hosting configurations.
  • Knowledge of Agile project management tools such as Azure DevOps.
  • Experience with interactive design tools like Figma, Sketch, InVision, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Zeplin, and OmniGraffle.
  • Knowledge of Government of Ontario web standards (Ontario Design System) and governance frameworks.
  • Experience leveraging AI tools such as GitHub Copilot to accelerate coding.
  • Ability to create diverse content including blogs, presentations, animations, videos, and social media.
  • Strong communication skills for team collaboration, documentation, and training.

Special Considerations:

  • Position requires onsite work.
  • Must comply with Government of Ontario web standards and security protocols.
  • Contract duration subject to master service agreement and survival clauses with fixed maximum contract value.
  • Security clearances and contract signing timelines may affect start date.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment and manage multiple stakeholders.

Scheduling:

  • Work 7.25 hours per calendar day, Monday to Friday.
  • Working hours generally between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, excluding breaks.
  • Five days onsite per week required.
