Job Description

SUMMARY

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on, and highly organized Butler to support the day-to-day operations of a private residence in Dundas, Ontario.

The successful candidate will take an active role in maintaining the organization, presentation, and smooth functioning of the household. This is a varied position combining traditional butler responsibilities with wardrobe and closet care, household inventories, errands, light administrative duties, seasonal outdoor work, event preparation, and occasional driving.

The ideal candidate is practical, discreet, proactive, and comfortable moving seamlessly between different responsibilities according to the needs of the household. A collaborative attitude is essential, as several duties will be performed alongside other household staff.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Wardrobe, Laundry & Closet Management

• Manage laundry, including washing, drying, folding, and returning garments and household items to their appropriate places.
  
• Maintain organized closets and ensure clothing is properly stored and readily available.
  
• Coordinate the delivery and collection of suits, garments, and other items requiring professional dry cleaning.
  
• Ensure clothing is appropriately mended or altered when required.
  
• Maintain shoes, including polishing and arranging repairs as necessary.
  
• Ensure garments and coats are kept clean and presentable, including the removal of pet hair.
  
• Maintain a consistently high standard of wardrobe organization and presentation.
  

Household Organization & Inventory

• Assist with the organization and inventory of household areas, equipment, and supplies.
  
• Review and organize designated areas of the residence on a rotating basis, such as the pantry, refrigerators, furnace room, office drawers, and storage areas.
  
• Monitor household appliances and coordinate or perform basic upkeep as appropriate, including items such as coffee machines.
  
• Identify items requiring replenishment, maintenance, repair, or further attention.
  
• Help ensure household items are maintained in their designated locations.
  

Household & Administrative Support

• Assist with general administrative tasks as required.
  
• Complete household purchases and errands.
  
• Care for indoor plants.
  
• Assist with miscellaneous household projects and changing priorities.
  
• Work collaboratively with other household staff to maintain an organized, efficient, and well-presented residence.
  

Seasonal Outdoor & Property Support

During the warmer months, assist with outdoor and property-related responsibilities, including:

• Lawn mowing
  
• Weeding and deadheading
  
• Light pruning
  
• Garage cleaning and organization
  
• Pressure washing
  
• General upkeep of outdoor areas
  
• Assist professional contractors with seasonal projects where appropriate, including planting, pruning, tarping, and seasonal decorating.
  

During the winter months, outdoor responsibilities will be replaced by additional indoor household duties as required.

Travel Preparation

• Assist with packing before household travel.
  
• Assist with unpacking and reorganizing belongings following trips.
  
• Ensure clothing and other required items are properly prepared and ready for travel.
  

Events & Seasonal Preparation

• Assist with the preparation of the residence for private events and gatherings.
  
• Provide additional support with hosting when required.
  
• Assist with Christmas and other seasonal decorations.
  
• Help return the residence to its normal organization following events.
  

Driving & Errands

• Provide occasional driving assistance as required.
  
• Complete household errands and purchases.
  
• Transport clothing and other household items to and from service providers.

• Experienced in private household service, hospitality, or a comparable service-oriented environment.
  
• Highly organized and attentive to detail.
  
• Hands-on and comfortable performing a broad range of household responsibilities.
  
• Proactive and able to recognize what needs attention without requiring constant direction.
  
• Discreet and respectful of household privacy and confidentiality.
  
• Collaborative and comfortable working alongside other household staff.
  
• Adaptable and willing to shift priorities according to household requirements.
  
• Comfortable performing both indoor and seasonal outdoor duties.
  
• Physically capable of carrying out the practical requirements of the position.
  
• Service-oriented, with pride in maintaining high standards.
  
• Calm, dependable, and professional.
  
• Committed to providing invisible service, anticipating needs and completing responsibilities discreetly and efficiently.
  

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

• Previous relevant experience in a private household or comparable professional environment.
  
• Strong wardrobe, laundry, and household organization skills.
  
• Good understanding of garment and shoe care.
  
• Ability and willingness to perform seasonal outdoor duties.
  
• Valid driver's licence and ability to drive when required.
  
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  
• Professional discretion and respect for confidentiality.
  
• Flexibility to assist with occasional events and weekend requirements.
  
• Legal authorization to work in Canada.
  

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

• Full-time position
  
• Primarily Monday to Friday
  
• Some weekend availability may occasionally be required for events or other household needs.
  
• When weekend work is required, a corresponding weekday off will be provided.
  
• Flexibility will be required according to household activities, events, and seasonal priorities.
