Job Title: CNC MachinistJob Description

This role involves programming, setting up, and operating Haas 4-axis CNC milling machines and Haas CNC lathes to produce high-quality precision components. You will interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications, perform tooling and offset adjustments, and carry out detailed inspections to ensure all parts meet stringent quality standards. The position also includes troubleshooting machining issues, performing routine maintenance, and occasionally working on manual lathes for custom, repair, prototype, or low-volume production jobs in a safe and organized environment.

Responsibilities

  • Program CNC machines using G-code for Haas 4-axis CNC milling machines and Haas CNC lathes.
  • Set up CNC mills and lathes, including installing tooling, setting work offsets, and configuring machine parameters.
  • Operate Haas CNC milling and turning equipment to produce precision parts according to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical documentation to determine machining requirements.
  • Perform tooling changes, offsets, and machine adjustments to maintain optimal performance and part accuracy.
  • Inspect machined parts using precision measuring instruments to verify compliance with dimensional and quality standards.
  • Apply quality inspection techniques to identify nonconformances and ensure consistent production of high-quality components.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues, including dimensional deviations and surface finish problems, and implement corrective actions.
  • Optimize machining processes to improve production efficiency, reduce scrap, and enhance overall part quality.
  • Perform routine maintenance on CNC machines, including cleaning, lubrication, and basic mechanical checks.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with workplace safety practices.
  • Complete occasional manual lathe and manual machining work for custom, repair, prototype, or low-volume production jobs.
  • Collaborate with team members to share ideas and suggestions for process improvements and workflow efficiency.
  • Follow production schedules and work orders to meet deadlines and support on-time delivery of customer orders.
  • Document work as required, including recording measurements, adjustments, and inspection results.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of CNC machining experience.
  • Strong experience with Haas CNC controls, including programming, setup, and operation.
  • Proficiency in programming CNC machines using G-code.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Experience with 4-axis CNC milling operations.
  • Experience with CNC turning operations on lathes.
  • Proficiency in the use of precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other inspection tools.
  • Strong understanding of quality inspection techniques and dimensional verification.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Strong problem-solving skills for troubleshooting machining and process issues.
  • Ability to perform tooling changes, offsets, and machine adjustments accurately and efficiently.
  • Capability to work safely in a machine shop environment and follow established safety procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with live tooling on CNC lathes is considered an asset.
  • Experience operating manual machining equipment, including manual lathes, is considered an asset.
  • Experience performing custom, repair, prototype, or low-volume production machining work.
  • Comfort working in a dynamic environment with evolving processes and equipment.
  • Strong communication skills to share ideas, suggestions, and feedback with the team.

Work Environment

You will work in a safe, clean, and organized machine shop environment. The machine shop floor and warehouse team operates alongside a second facility that includes an assembly production team and an office team, creating a collaborative, multi-functional operation. The standard schedule is Monday to Friday from 7:00 . to 3:30 ., with the possibility of extended hours up to 5:30 . and occasional weekend work depending on workload. The dress code includes appropriate shop attire, with safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, dust masks, and safety vests provided on site to support a safe working environment.

This is a Contract position based out of Maple Ridge, BC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
